While most people spend the month of February looking forward to (or dreading) Valentine’s Day, I prefer February 13th—Galentine’s Day.

Galentine’s Day, popularized by the NBC sitcom, Parks and Recreation, is a day to celebrate friendship. Take your girlfriends out for brunch, shower them with intricate handmade presents and spend time appreciating the most important people in your life. Needless to say, Galentine’s Day should be a national holiday, so here are a few tips to make your Galentine’s Day plans surpass any Valentine’s Day plans you might have.

1.  Pancake Art

What better way to celebrate your lady friends than to put their faces on breakfast food? Good morning bestie, I made breakfast!

2.  Compliment Cookies

Galentine’s Day is all about letting your girlfriends know exactly how important they are. Why not tell them word for word on a cookie? Options for compliments include, “You beautiful tropical fish,” and “You are a beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful, musk ox.”

3.  Waffles

Leslie Knope has her priorities straight.  No Galentine’s Day brunch is complete without Leslie’s signature dish—a waffle completely smothered in whipped cream.

4.  Wine

Galentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, so there’s no excuse not to turn up before Valentine’s Day. Any gathering dedicated to “girl talk” is obligated to be accompanied by a ginormous glass of wine.

5.  Conversation Hearts

Conversation hearts are a Valentine’s Day must, but this year, we’re skipping the romantic ones. Personalize your own conversations hearts here with phrases like, “Treat Yo Self,” and “Sisters before Misters.” #PREACH

6.  Girl Power

Galentine’s Day is a time to leave your significant others behind and celebrate the unsung heroes, the ladies who are there for you through first date prep and post-break up cry sessions. In truth, they probably deserve more than just one holiday, so make sure you make Galentine’s Day the best damn holiday of the year.
