Is there any food better than doughnuts? Idk if it’s a breakfast, dessert, or snack food, but it’s perfect for every occasion. As doughnuts are truly an American signature, we gotta know what is the best doughnut in every state of the US (and the District of Columbia because gotta #rep).
I get weak when I see that gooey cream filling, and even though I don’t understand why someone initially thought bacon would be good on donuts, I’m into it 1000%. As a fellow doughnut lover, I’m happy to assist so that you’re never without this fluffy dream of a food again.
Alabama: The Heavenly Donut Company
If you’re over food trucks, check out the Dough Truck. It’s a better version of the OG because…donuts.
Alaska: Dino’s Donuts
I vibe hard with these donuts. Much aesthetics. Very hipster. So cool.
Arizona: The Local Donut
You can choose between traditional, classy, and fancy donuts at the Local Donut. Idk the difference between classy and fancy, but I’ into red velvet and s’mores donuts so whatever.
Arkansas: Mark’s Do-Nut Shop
These are the classic OG doughnuts. No frills, but tons of flavor.
California: California Donuts
These doughnuts are slightly bizarre. California Doughnuts is famous for their panda design, so if you’re #doingitfortheinsta, I’d order that.
Colorado: Amy’s Donuts
I forgot about how much I loved mud pie until right now, but now I am mad craving a gummy worm and oreo doughnut.
Connecticut: Donut Crazy
Am I the only one that went crazy seeing this picture? Look at those chocolate chips.
Delaware: Gooey Donuts
The Food Network recommends the S’mores Doughnut from Gooeys, and tbh I’ll listen to anything advice that might be coming from the Barefoot Contessa.
Florida: The Salty Donut
These doughnuts are right by the Wynwood Walls, so you’re all set for a quality photo op.
Georgia: Sublime Doughnuts
This ain’t your average doughnut. After you get a generous scoop of ice cream on top, you can’t go back. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Go to Leonard’s for a Malasada, which is a Portuguese twist on doughnuts: fried dough with a creamy center and no hole.

Girl Scout cookies and doughnuts are the perfect combo. Get the Girl Scout for your updated Samoa (or Caramel deLite, or whatever it’s called these days).

Snickers infused donuts? Talk about food porn. I have never seen such chocolate goodness in my life.

Their French Toast doughnuts are served with Maple Syrup. Brunch. Goals.
Iowa: Mahalo’s Coffee & Mini Donuts
These may be mini in size, but not in flavor. Look at the toppings on those bad boys. You won’t be able to stop at just one.
Kansas: Fluffy Fresh Donuts
Fluffy Fresh Donuts is your old-style, very low-key doughnut destination. Super small town, chill vibes.

Mississippi: Shipley Donuts
Let me introduce you to the Chocolache. It’s a chocolate donut filled with sausage and cheese on the inside. I’m not really sure how I feel about this, but ya can’t knock it until you try it.

New York: Doughnut Plant
New York is truly the hardest state to decide because NYC is full of quality doughnuts. Doughnut Plant rises to the top because of their yummy, and insta-worthy matcha doughnuts.
North Carolina: Wake N Bake Donuts
This beachside doughnut shop is perfect for your morning cereal (on top of a doughnut, of course).
North Dakota: Sandy’s Donuts
With over 75 flavors of doughnuts, you’ll never be bored. I would recommend the S’mores Long John.
Ohio: Buckeye Donuts
Columbus is having a food moment right now, and I can see why with places like Buckeye Donuts. Drunk eating is welcome at this 24 hour donut mecca.
Oklahoma: Hurts Donuts
Hurts Donuts doesn’t have a food truck, but rather an Emergency Donut Vehicle. TBH I would get hurt if it would get me a Hurt’s Donut from the EDV.
Oregon: Voodoo Doughnuts
Where else can you order a Cock and Balls or Maple Blazer Blunt doughnut? Voodoo Doughnuts is the king of unique and crazy combinations, and my personal favorite is the Mexican Hot Chocolate cake doughnut.
Pennsylvania: Federal Donuts
Get one of their churro doughnuts with a side of fried chicken (and maybe some coffee too) because Federal Donuts has it all.
Rhode Island: PVDonuts
All doughnuts at PVDonut are handmade and prepared by some super cool superwomen.
South Carolina: Glazed Gourmet Doughnuts
Charleston is the food capital of South Carolina, and Glazed is the doughnut king. They even have doughnut cakes (aka a cake with about a dozen of doughnuts on top) because YUM.
South Dakota: Jerry’s Cakes and Donuts
Just a warning, you’re gonna have to get here early. Jerry’s Cakes & Donuts opens at 5 am, so if you want the best flavors, try to get there for your fix before 9 am.
Tennessee: Five Daughters Bakery
Who said healthy can’t taste good? Five Daughters Bakery specializes in vegan and paleo doughnuts without sacrificing on flavor.
Texas: Gourdough’s
Everything is bigger in Texas, including the doughnuts. With all that marshmallow and brownie, I’m not complaining.
Utah: CrEATe Donuts
This place is sick. All the flavors are customizable, so you are really ~creating~ your own doughnut (I’m sorry, I couldn’t help the pun).
Vermont: The Doughnut Dilemma
The only dilemma here is deciding which doughnut to order. I would go for the Fluffernutter because, like any good Masshole, I grew up on fluff.
Virginia: Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken
Donuts and fried chicken. Name a more iconic duo, I’ll wait.
Washington: General Porpoise
Seattle is full of quality doughnut shops, but no one has cream like General Porpoise. I cannot imagine a better food for a Boomerang.
Washington, D.C.: District Doughnut
If you are bored, just watch some videos of their Creme Brulee Doughnuts being caramelized. I guarantee at least an hour of entertainment (from experience #sos).
West Virginia: JR’s Donut Castle
Go to JR’s if you’re looking for your classic glazed doughnut: it’s their speciality.
Wisconsin: Dough Baby Bakery
I’m expecting a massive food baby whenever I go to Dough Baby Bakery. Just tell yourself they’re organic to feel better about eating multiple.
Wyoming: Delish Donuts & Coffee
According to Yelp, “While Delish only offers mini-donuts, each one is a treat. They are crisp on the outside, moist and crumbly on the inside, and covered in decadent ganache, vanilla, or cinnamon sugar.” Sign me up for some cinnamon sugar doughnuts.
