18 Lidl Products You Need for Back to School

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UVA chapter.

Prepare yourself, because I’m about to blow your mind with Lidl, the ideal grocery store for students everywhere. Before long, you’re going to be wondering why you ever spent your whole paycheck at those other grocery stores.

Each Lidl only has six aisles and very few versions of each product, which means you’re going to spend a lot less time wandering around aimlessly. Every product is tested privately, then on customers, before it hits the shelf, so you know you’re getting the best product at the best price

Donut Shop Medium Roast K-Cups ($3.89)

I am the kind of person that needs her one cup of coffee every morning. That’s why I love these K-cups so much. It saves me the wasted coffee of making a whole pot and the wasted money of going to Starbucks every morning.

Dark Chocolate Macaroon Granola ($3.99)

I’ll take any excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast, but this is my personal favorite. Granola always seems to be crunchy enough to break a tooth, so I like how this organic and gluten-free version switches it up.

Vanilla Bean Skyr ($3.99)

What better to put your granola on than a big bowl of yogurt? Skyr is my favorite because it’s even richer and creamier than greek yogurt. And while most flavored yogurts are loaded with sugar, this one’s just the right balance of sweet and tart.

Mixed Berry Pomegranate Skyr ($0.99)

I couldn’t stop with only one breakfast option. This fruit-flavored version of Skyr comes in a single serving cup that’s super easy to grab on your way to class. It’s an ideal option for someone only shopping for one that won’t be able to eat the family-sized container.

Sea Salt Quinoa Chips ($1.99)

Some may think the quinoa craze has gone too far, but I’m happy that it led to the creation of this delicious snack. They’re packed with more protein than potato chips, so you’ll actually feel satisfied after snacking on them. Adventurous eaters can also try the barbecue flavor.

Zesty Nacho Kale Chips ($3.89)

OK, these may not be your traditional nacho cheese Dorito, but hear me out. They’re organic and gluten-free, plus have all the nutritional benefits of kale. They’re an ideal brain food for studying that you don’t have to feel guilty about snacking on.

Wasabi Soy Almonds ($4.39)

Some people, me included, need a heartier snack with a little bit more of a bite to stay satisfied between meals. That’s where these wasabi soy nuts come in. They have just the right amount of spice without leaving you chugging a gallon of water.

Mixed Berry Yogurt Bites ($1.49)

I thought that I would follow up that spicy snack with a sweet option. These yogurt bites may be from the baby aisle, but anyone who’s actually tried them won’t judge you for it. They have amazing flavor, but with no preservatives, artificial flavors, or synthetic colors.

Pepper Mini Brie ($2.99)

Now we’re back to the regularly scheduled adult food programming. This mini brie will make any pregame feel super sophisticated when you use it to make a mini cheese platter. Or, just heat it up in the oven for yourself.

Cream Cheese Stuffed Jalapeños ($3.59)

You’re probably sensing a cheese theme in my grocery list, but I’m totally OK with that. These breaded and fried jalapeños ooze cheesy goodness when you bite into them. The best part is that all you have to do is heat them up.

Ramen Noodle Salad ($3.99)

Talk about an affordable lunch option. There’s no reason to go out to eat when Lidl has so many options for ready-made meals that actually taste fresh. This one has the perfect balance of chew and crunch with ramen noodles, cabbage, bell peppers, and snow peas.

Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix ($1.99)

Now everyone, including those with gluten intolerances, can experience the fun of making their own pizza from scratch. The topping options are only limited by your imagination, so be sure to pick up a wide variety while you’re already at the store.

Promotional Falafel Kit ($2.99)

The next three items are Lidl promotional products, which change every week. While they might not be on promotion now, keep an eye out, because they’re some of my favorites.

Don’t tell anyone, but the falafel from this kit are more moist and flavorful than any I’ve gotten from a restaurant. Why go out when you can have this specialty just by turning on the oven?

Promotional Fig Pizza

This unique flavor of frozen pizza comes all the way from Italy, and I really think I can taste the difference. I’ve definitely been converted to having fig in savory dishes after this pizza, which comes with four kinds of cheeses.

Promotional Raspberry Macaron Baking Mix

A baking mix from Germany for a French pastry may sound a little strange, but trust me on this one. There’s a reason that Lidl went through the hassle of getting this baking mix all the way from Europe, and you’ll find out what that is when you take your first bite. They can rival Laduree

Caramel Corn Rice Cakes ($1.29)

And now I return to the products you can find every day with some more dessert options.

Try covering these rice cakes with chocolate spread or crumbling them on top of your ice cream for added crunch factor without overloading on fat and calories.

Sea Salted Caramel and Chocolate Truffle Ice Cream ($1.69)

When I said ice cream just a minute ago, this is what I meant. The caramel ice cream base is made with fresh cream, sugar, and milk. Plus, there’s no shortage of sea salt caramel swirls or chocolate caramel truffles throughout.

Detox Wellness Green Tea ($2.99)

Just like I start every morning with a cup of coffee, my favorite way to end every evening is with a cup of tea. This organic green tea is a great way to cleanse your body after a long weekend, or just whenever you’re feeling down

In addition to my personal favorite products, Lidl always has a large display of bakery goods and ready-to-eat meals that are made fresh daily.

Remember the rotating selection of promotional items I mentioned before? Well, it turns out that Lidl doesn’t limit that to food either. Every week there are new items, from yoga gear to grills, for cheap.

Basically Lidl is a one stop shop built for college students. The experience is streamlined for inexperienced grocery shoppers and everything is cheap. What more could you ask for?
