Dairy Queen Is Releasing Discontinued Blizzard Flavors

The Dairy Queen Blizzard has unrivaled iconic nostalgia. What I always loved about DQ was that there was rarely a menu board that listed every single flavor — you just had to commit your favorites to memory, or go with the flavor of the month. Everyone has their favorite blizzard flavor, whether it’s a classic like Heath or Oreo, or a limited flavor, like midnight truffle and royal New York cheesecake. But now, Dairy Queen has announced that it will be going back in time a little bit, opening the DQ Freezer on April 1st (I hope this isn’t a prank) to release some discontinued Blizzard flavors.

What is coming back to Dairy Queen?

What this means is that of the 170 archived blizzard flavors from the past, some will be re-released periodically, so you can get ready for your favorites to make a return. The first flavors to make their comeback will be Brownie Batter, Frosted Animal Cookie, and Cotton Candy. Plus as new additions, Picnic Peach Cobbler, Ultimate Cookie, and Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Party will make their debut.

With the recent return of the cherry-dipped cone, and now this, it’s clear that Dairy Queen is going back to the classics, and we’re here for it. I love that Dairy Queen opted for these three flavors, which appeal to all of our inner-child. Frosted Animal Cookie and Cotton Candy feel like flavors you have to beg your parents to let you order in exchange for a promise not to resist bedtime. I specifically remember ordering Brownie Batter with my whole softball team after winning a Little League championship.

What’s new at Dairy Queen?

In addition to the returning flavors, Dairy Queen is also releasing three new blizzard flavors: Picnic Peach Cobbler, Ultimate Cookie, and Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Party. I think these flavors bring an equally nostalgic feeling; Picnic Peach Cobbler is a reminder of late August afternoons in the mid 2000s.

Additionally, Dairy Queen is bringing in a BOGO deal to make it easier to try all six flavors. Between April 1 and April 14, you can buy one blizzard of any size, and get one of equal or lesser size for free.
