What Your Favorite Avenger Would Eat at the Movie Theater

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UC Berkeley chapter.

Marvel’s Avengers Endgame will be released Friday, April 26, 2019. The film brings together the original Avengers—and some new friends—to defeat Thanos, an other-worldly villain responsible for the elimination of some of our favorite characters in Avengers: Infinity War. I wanted to prep for this movie marathon like an Avenger would. That got me thinking: what would our favorite Avengers bring to the movies to watch the final showdown?

Steve Rogers (Captain America): Popcorn

As someone who grew up in the 1930s and 1940s, just as movie theaters became popular, Steve sticks to the classics. Though portions and toppings have changed in all those years Rogers spent in the ice, I imagine a personal bag of popcorn at the theater takes him right back to his pre-superhero days. Cap is ready to kick Thanos’ butt then kick back and watch it all go down. What’s more American than a super large, buttered, movie theater popcorn?

Tony Stark (Iron Man): M&Ms

As everyone’s favorite genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist, Tony is going to buy out the entire theater’s stock of M&Ms of every flavor. Of course, he’d share them with everyone in the theatre, and then sit in the front row, eating his own while loudly telling everyone who will listen how he saved the day. Why M&Ms though? Like Rogers, he sticks to the classics.

Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow): Various types of candies snuck in from the nearest drug store

Nat is a badass, highly-trained spy and assassin who is not afraid to break some rules. There is no question that she successfully sneaks all her snacks into the theater. For Endgame, I picture her packing extra large chocolate bars in every zippered pocket of her suit and getting away with it every time.

Clint Barton (Hawkeye): Large Coca Cola

Barton is the well-reasoned sharpshooter who is always there to save the day. He is loyal but tired. The man has three young children, and he keeps getting dragged back into the Avengers’ conflicts every single year. He needs some caffeine to stay sharp, but also just wants the chance to sit back and witness his curtain call.

Thor (God of Thunder): Beer

Thor is not of this world, and the rules about drinking at the theater are different in Asgard. At the Avengers’ parties, he is never without his giant flagon of imported beer, and I’m sure this is no exception when it comes to the movies. The theater staff is unlikely to question a man with a hammer that follows him around at his command.

Bruce Banner (Hulk): Raisinets

Bruce Banner is a simple, intelligent man. He likes the practical candy—something where the price won’t make him turn into the Hulk, but will also take the edge off after an exhausting showdown. He would probably choose the healthier option of Raisinets. As for when Banner becomes the Hulk? He’d bring the entire concessions stand into the theater.

Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel): Toll House Chipwich

Carol’s last memories on earth are from the 1990s when Chipwiches became a classic. Plus, she is probably looking to cool off after blasting through the stratosphere to answer the Avengers call.

Friday, April 26, the original six and Captain Marvel are coming to save the day. Who knows how it will turn out? They could save all their other friends—characters like T’Challa, Peter Parker, Bucky, or Wanda, or they could sacrifice themselves along the way. For now, it’s nice to imagine that after all the fighting is done, they’d get to settle down in a theater somewhere and watch Endgame unfold with their favorite snacks like the rest of us.
