Birthday cake is potentially the only thing that makes me look forward to birthdays. The way that the cake, the sprinkles, the frosting, and the candles unite in sweet harmony gets me every time. To step up your cake game, try this Nutella frosting recipe. It has the right amount of chocolate-hazelnut flavor without feeling like you are eating Nutella by the spoonful. Here’s how to make Nutella frosting in just 20 minutes.
Nutella Buttercream Frosting Recipe
Ingredients
Instructions
Assemble your ingredients, and get your handheld or stand up mixer ready. Meanwhile, bake your cake! (Don’t forget about the cake. You can use yellow cake, chocolate cake, or a simple vanilla cake).
In a bowl, beat the two sticks of butter until they are smooth, then add about 1/2 cup of powdered sugar and continue beating.
For every 1/2 cup of powdered sugar added, add 1 to 2 generous tablespoons of Nutella and continue beating.
Add in the vanilla once you are done adding the Nutella and powdered sugar into the mixture. The vanilla helps smooth the frosting further.
Add in the milk to smoothen out the frosting even more. Add more Nutella or more powdered sugar if desired, depending on chocolaty you want your frosting to taste.
Generously spread it onto your cake or cupcakes. The recipe makes about 3 to 4 cups of frosting. Add it as a filling between your cake layers, as well as on the top and sides of the cake.
Decorate as you like, serve, and enjoy! Suggested toppings include: sprinkles, almonds, or, if you’d like, go crazy with a drizzle of Nutella on top.
Impress all of your guests on your next birthday party (or any other excuse to bake a cake and top it with Nutella frosting, for that matter). Nutella addict or not, I guarantee this recipe will be at the top of your list.
