These chocolate chip cookies quickly became a family favorite cookie recipe after one of our neighbors brought the cookies to a women's Bunco game night. She was kind enough to share the recipe, and these cookies have quickly become a staple in our home. Friday night was the night we made a fun dessert growing up, and these were baked more often than any other treat. Easy to make, and a simple recipe leads to delicious cookies!

To change them up, I often add mini-peanut butter cups (Trader Joe's sells my favorite), white chocolate chips, or anything else with some chocolatey goodness to replace the regular chocolate chips in this family favorite cookie recipe. I also don't always add oats. Sometimes, It is a plain chocolate chip cookie kind of night! Some chopped up pecans or other nuts are another delicious variation to these cookies. I have been baking these cookies for years, and I am still finding new and exciting ways to adapt the recipe!

The BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup or 1 stick unsalted butter at room temp
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup chocolate chips measure with your heart!

    Preheat the oven to 350° and get out your ingredients.

    Cream butter until smooth with no lumps (should not be longer than 1-2 minutes).

  • Step 3

    Add the sugars and combine until no lumps.

  • Step 4

    Add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.

  • Step 5

    Add baking powder, baking soda, and salt and mix until combined.

  • Step 6

    Add flour slowly and combine.

  • Step 7

    Add oats and chocolate chips (amounts as desired).

  • Step 8

    Roll cookie dough into balls, separated by 1.5 inches or more.

    Bake at 350° Farenheit until golden brown (15-18 minutes).
