The McDonald’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Burger Trend Is Definitely A Mouthful

McDonald’s fans, your time has come once again. The fast food chain has been the center of a new weird food combination trending this week: chocolate chip cookie burgers.

The chocolate chip cookie burger trend is simple: you buy a burger and a chocolate chip from McDonald’s, you put the chocolate chip into the burger, and you take a bite and decide for yourself if it’s good or not.

This trend originated from a viral video posted on September 20 by @realjonaee_ on TikTok. The video, which is only nine seconds long, features a McDonald’s double cheeseburger with a chocolate chip cookie on top of the burger patty. The chocolate chip cookie McDouble already has a few bites taken out of it.

“What y’all know about putting that cookie on your double cheeseburger?” @realjonaee_ says from behind the camera. “Y’all don’t know game, for real.”

Since it was first posted, the video now has 1.1M likes and 12.3M views on the social media platform. The video is not short of comments either: there are 72.9K of them. The McDonald’s TikTok account has even commented on the video; “I stopped asking questions atp,” reads the comment.

Other top comments on the original video voice skepticism for the trend as well, with some users getting “McMad” at the outrageous combination and others saying the creator might be pregnant, given how weird the combo is — “I think there might be a McBun in the McOven,” said one commenter.

Even with the dubious commenters, other creators on TikTok have since given the chocolate chip cookie burger a try for themselves, like Morgan Chomps (@morganchompz) on TikTok.

The double cheeseburger cost Morgan $2.79, and the cookie cost 99 cents. To build the chocolate chip cookie burger, she peels the two burger patties apart and places the cookie between them, smack-dab in the center of the burger — there’s no avoiding the cookie with that kind of assemblage.

“It’s honestly not that bad,” she said after taking a few bites of the burger. “It does take a minute for your brain to register, but if anything, the cookie doesn’t really add a flavor. It just adds some sweetness.”

Morgan gave the cookie cheeseburger a 6.7/10 rating, calling it unnecessary, but by far not the worst thing she’s tried.

The comments are conflicted, with some viewers saying that they would try anything once, others worried for the health of those who try the trend, and still others just grossed out by the thought of a chocolate chip cookie burger.

“I don’t want cheese, mayo, or meat touching my chocolate chip cookie,” said one commenter.

Another creator, Chris Frezza (@chrisfrez on TikTok), also hopped on the McDonald’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Burger trend. “Seriously, I can’t believe I’m doing this,” he said as he assembled the burger.

I tried the viral McDonald’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Burger trend! Take a McDonald’s Double Cheeseburger, put a chocolate chip cookie BETWEEN the two beef patties, and take a bite! This viral McDonald’s food hack is taking sweet and salty to a whole new level! But does a chocolate chip cookie actually belong inside a cheeseburger? After taking a huge bite, he surprisingly seemed to enjoy it. “Why does this weirdly work?” he said. “It’s got the cheeseburger taste with that, kind of like a melty chocolate chip taste.”

Most of the comments underneath his video were pretty disgusted by the notion of a cookie in a burger, but one commenter seemed to have experience with the viral trend.

“I been doing this for 30 years and people said I was gross,” the comment read. “Now everyone is doing it and loves it.

Despite the conflicting views of the McDonald’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Burger trend, the curiosity surrounding it seems to win over the initial disgust towards the concept, and I’m sure plenty more food creators will be trying this viral trend within the next few days to see for themselves if it’s actually worth the hype.
