There may be nothing better than an ice cream cone from Dairy Queen, where perfectly funneled soft-serve with the signature loop on the tip sits atop a crunchy cake cone. That is, except when that soft-serve cone is dipped into a delicious liquid that hardens into a crunchy, tasty, shell. The most iconic Dairy Queen shell is the classic chocolate dipped cone. But the cherry dipped cone is a close second, a sweet and fruity shell that comes in ruby red, a nostalgic ode to Dairy Queen’s logo color.
Last year, Dairy Queen discontinued the cherry dip to make way for its new dipped flavor, butterscotch. Like the Jackson 5, Dairy Queen lovers and cherry fans are screaming “I want you back,” hoping for the bright red cone to return. A TikTok user and Dairy Queen employee may have just broken the news that cherry dipped is, in fact, back.
Miranda, a District Manager at Dairy Queen, posted a TikTok under the account @DairyQueenShelbyTwp stating that cherry dipped is making a return. “Due to popular demand, cherry is coming back,” she said in the video. “I can’t give an exact date because it depends on when the distributors get it in stock, but it was one of the best sellers in my location, which are in southeast Michigan, so I’ll be the first to let you guys know when I have it.”
It seems that begging brands on social media to bring back discontinued products is the way to go, with the same going for Honey Mustard Pringles and the McDonald’s Snack Wrap, and we’re here for it. A Dairy Queen representative confirmed the come-back in a statement to TODAY: “We know our fans love the Cherry Dipped Cone, and we’re excited to bring this sweet offering back for a limited time at participating locations.”
We’re sad to hear that the cherry is only coming back for a limited time, but we’ll take what we can get. But for now I’ll be patiently awaiting its return, crossing my fingers that the cherry dipped cone will be back to brighten up spring, just in time for warm weather and sweet treat season.
