National Food Holidays in the Month of April

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Ole Miss chapter.

For all you food lovers out there, the month of April is the holy grail of good food and hosts a plethora of National Food Holidays to cure all your cravings. Here is your guide to all of the National Food Holidays in the Month of April:

April 2nd – National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day is a simple food holiday to participate in from home. However, if you feel like mixing it up, Bottletree Bakery has their own PB&J sandwich made with blackberry jam that is sure to do the trick.

April 4th – National Ramen Noodle Day

National. Ramen. Day. It is every college student’s go-to meal. This day is just any other day for us. Plus, we now have an excuse to make ramen again instead of attempting to eat healthy or cook an actual meal.

April 7th – National Beer Day

Ahh, National Beer Day, my favorite. This holiday should be treated just like any other national holiday: take the day off. The proper way to celebrate this holiday consists of waking up at 9 am, cracking open your beer of choice and drinking all day (preferably poolside). However, if you are looking to celebrate with friends out-on-the-town in Oxford, I highly recommend getting a beer flight at The Growler on The Square.

April 12th – National Grilled Cheese Day

Here in Oxford the ONLY place to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day the right way is to get dressed up and swing by Secret Grilled Cheese (if you don’t know where it is, ask a friend).

April 13th – National Peach Cobbler Day

Treat. Yo. Self. If you are searching for a mouthwatering Peach Cobbler, make the 15 minute drive to Taylor, Mississippi and order Miss Minnie’s Peach Cobbler from Taylor Grocery. I promise you, it is worth it.

April 22nd – National Jelly Bean Day

Let’s face it, we all love jelly beans and have since we were kids. If you want to eat this sweet little treat, swing by Holli’s Sweet Tooth and make yourself an assorted bag of all the flavors you like.

April 24th – National Pigs-In-A-Blanket Day

Pigs-In-A-Blanket are the ultimate appetizers. They are the perfect bite-size food and always keep you coming back for more. This snack is simple and easy to make from home when celebrating the holiday.

April 26th – National Pretzel Day

Let’s be real, the best soft pretzels come from a local carnival food truck. However, as an alternative, I bought a box of soft pretzels from Kroger and put it in my freezer to prep for the holiday. Feel free to do the same.

April 27th – National Rib Day

We are thankful the food gods created the juicy, spicy, messy goodness we call ribs (even though it will get all over your white t-shirt). The best local places in Oxford to get a meaty rack of ribs are B’s Hickory Smoke BBQ, Handy Andy Grocery, Rib Cage and Rebel Barn

April 30th – National Oatmeal Cookie Day

Oatmeal Cookies are underrated in the cookie world, but thankfully we have a day we can eat them on. You cannot go wrong ordering a hot oatmeal raisin cookie from Insomnia Cookies.
