7 Treats for Galentines Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Duke chapter.

Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday. May be an unpopular opinion, but I take so much joy in anything that encourages showing those special to you how much you love them (also, I love anything pink). It doesn’t have to be all about romantic relationships- the trick to celebrating single is recognizing all the love and special relationships you have in your life already. Personally, my love language is food, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to gather everyone I love and shower them with chocolatey, fruity, pink deliciousness. Some of these recipes are simpler, some will require a little more time, but all have that secret ingredient that puts a smile on everyone’s face (hint: it’s love). So pick your favorite treat, because Galentine’s Day isn’t ready for all this yumminess!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Nothing is as simple yet satisfying as chocolate covered strawberries. With this Food Network recipe, you can customize the type of chocolate, brush it with some pretzels or nuts for extra crunch, or simply stick with the classic. And have it in your mouth in less than twenty minutes.

Triple Chocolate-Hazelnut Cookies

Like Nutella, but in a cookie. Nothing sounds more divine. Plus, it uses three types of chocolate! Get the recipe for these triple chocolate hazelnut cookies here.

Valentine’s Double Chocolate Bark

If you have a spontaneous sweet tooth, this Valentine’s Double Chocolate Bark is for you. This requires only three ingredients (two of which are chocolate, yum!), and consists of just melting chocolate, adding whatever toppings you want, and chilling time. The perfect snacking companion to your rom com binge fest.

Red Velvet Cake Mix Cinnamon Rolls

Red velvet for breakfast? Yes please! And, with all your college budgets in mind, capitalizes on the beauty that is boxed cake mix to save you some money. Check out the recipe for these Red Velvet Cake Mix Cinnamon Rolls here.

Devilish Angel Cake with Wine Soaked Berries

Ryan Terhune

We’ve got the fruit, we’ve got the wine, we’ve got the cake. Seems like the perfect combination for Galentine’s Day if you ask me! This Devilish Angel Cake recipe is perfect for the bakers who are a bit more into the eating component than the baking, as it starts with a store bought angel cake (although the ambitious can certainly make their own- here’s a good recipe for that!)

Strawberry Cheesecake Brownies

This lovely recipe combines two dessert favorites into one perfectly chocolatey, creamy, and fruity dessert. Find the recipe here

Red Wine-Chocolate Cupcakes

Wine and chocolate is already a dreamy duo. Combine into a cupcake, and you’ve got the perfect treat for your girl’s night in. Check out the recipe here

Now that you’ve got all these recipes to try, the next step is to gather some friends and choose that swoony rom com. I know I’ll be eating chocolate covered strawberries while watching P.S I Love You.

I am a sophomore at Duke University who loves food! Durham is an up and coming foodie town, and one of my passions is finding the hidden local gems of our community. My favorite food is by far cheese, but I love all.
