Information and knowledge can and should set us free. The healthy revolution is here and anyone with a social media account knows it well. Many people are tired of processed foods, intolerances tests are more developed and sharp than ever, and thanks to the digitization of information we can read anything we can possibly think of on our phones.

In an incredibly short period of time, food has turned into a major social media subject and every day you can see videos, pictures, advise, tips, and so on. How not to go crazy with all these news, advices and studies? you need to use your own mental filters to get to what you are really interested in, and try to identify what do you want to do with all that information so you can use it for good.

Now let's talk about one of the worst ingredients in the modern diet, although it comes in beautiful colors and shapes: crystalline sucrose, a.k.a white sugar. This ingredient brings a lot of joy when you are consuming it but it's all a big illusion, it is actually bad for you.

Reasons are pretty clear: It brings no benefit to your health, it contains no essential nutrients, it is highly addictive, it can cause diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol that can lead to heart disease, it can damage your liver and it is terrible for your teeth. 

So, how do we deal with processed sugar being so delicious and so bad? we substitute it! there are so many other ingredients that can be used for sweetening that you don't need to suffer the shock. 

Important: I am not saying you should completely ban yourself from sugar, I love desserts and I consume it, it's REALLY hard, but when we eat it, we should at least know what we are doing to our bodies and do it consciously!

To get away from the sugar addiction I am trying to make my own desserts when I have the time, here I share two deli baked cakes that you can enjoy without feeling guilty or sick, they are made with healthier ingredients and I promise they can also be sweet and exquisite for the palate.

Banana Cake

  • Prep Time:5 mins
  • Cook Time:35 mins
  • Total Time:40 mins
  • Servings:8
  • Medium

    Ingredients

  • 3 bananas
  • 1/2 big zuchinni
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 big cup oatmeal
  • 1 small cup veggie milk
  • 2 big spoonfuls cocoa

  • Step 1

    Mix all the ingredients together in the blender and put into a silicone mold.

    Bake for 30 to 40 minutes depending on the power of your oven. You should get something like this.

    MUST: this needs to go to the fridge for at least 1 1/2 hours. After that, you can decorate and serve (here it's served with some cereal, raspberries and banana nice-cream).

Carrot Cake

    Ingredients

  • 1 big carrot
  • 2 cup blended oatmeal
  • 1 cup veggie milk
  • 2 big spoonfuls cocoa
  • 1/2 big zuchinni
  • 6 dates
  • 1 egg
  • Honey
  • Cinnamon
  • Raisins

  • Step 1

    Put the dates into water for 5 minutes, then blend all the ingredients and set the mix in any kind of silicone mold.

    Bake 30 to 40 minutes depending on the power of your oven. Let it cool off, put in the fridge for 1 hour and serve beautifully.

There you go, as easy as pie. You can satisfy your sweet tooth with these two options and feel good about it. Knowing that what you are putting in your body can be very beneficial for your health and mental wellness. Have fun trying them out!
