There's no ignoring that winter has arrived, and I'm sure all of my cold-loathing pals are dreading the next few months as much as I am. However, uncomfortable temps can only be combatted with warm comfort food, and what could be sweeter than multi-purpose apple pie filling?

In my daily struggle to balance my love for nutrition and dessert, I stumbled upon this healthy, homemade recipe that will put your grandma's to shame. It's simple and nutritious, letting you have your "pie," and eat it too at any time of the day.

Step 5

Enjoy the hot apple pie filling right out of the Crock Pot, or let the apples cool to room temperature before transferring into tupperware. These apples are incredible alone, but even better on top of ice cream, oatmeal, crepes, waffles, or pancakes.
