With the hordes of Cinco de Mayo celebrators now gone, it’s once again safe to venture out for a margarita without getting trampled at the bar. Of course, you could always go for the simple, tried-and-true lime flavor, but why not switch it up a bit and drink a whole rainbow of margaritas? So, if you’re up for the challenge, here’s where to find the best margaritas near NYU, in ever color of the rainbow:
1. Red
The frozen pome(great) margarita from Rosa Mexicano is the perfect balance between sweet and salty, since the natural sweet taste of the agave is countered with just the right amount of lime juice. The result: a drink that leaves you asking for round two.
#SpoonTip: The customizable guacamole is guacing awesome.
2. Orange
The passion fruit margarita from Toloache is as fruity as it gets. But, if you get the mixed red chili for the rim, you will feel the refreshing tanginess in your mouth after every candied sip.
3. Yellow
A classic lime margarita, also from Rosa Mexicano, will always remain my favorite. The strong, sour flavor of the lime along with the salt you taste after every sip always keeps you begging for more. You can have this drink frozen or shaken (not stirred).
4. Green
Warning : The Jalapeño and Cucumber margarita at Tolaoche’s is not for the faint hearted: it’s spicy, sassy, and so very strong. The fiery Jalapeño tequila literally sets your mouth on fire.
5. Blue
San Loco is one of the few Mexican places in the neighborhood that serves a blue colored margarita. This restaurant is known for its soul food, colorful drinks, and family-style vibe.
6. Indigo
I couldn’t find an indigo colored margarita anywhere in the city. So I just made my own. The recipe is easy to follow and can even be done when you have had a few of these margarita’s from the list.

7. Violet
This is for the all NYU Tandon students out there who need a quick break from their problem sets. Head over to Gran Electrica in Brooklyn to taste their remolacha (beet) margarita. This margarita seems a little less sinful than the rest, and its freshness is something one can’t beet.
So get out for one last round on the town before hunkering down in Bobst for finals week. And don’t forget to drink responsibly!
