Here’s Where That Pedro Pascal Sandwich Meme Comes From

It’s certainly not the first time that Pedro Pascal has been turned into a meme on TikTok, but this one might be my favorite. And yes, I have definitely used it on my own account.

Pedro Pascal has been a TV sensation all year, kicking off 2023 with his work on HBO’s The Last Of Us and Disney+’s The Mandalorian. His first viral meme featured him in a famous scene with Nicholas Cage from The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. This latest one shows him enjoying a sandwich to a melancholic song with a blank stare. The meme has been used around 902,000 times on TikTok.

Where did the Pedro Pascal sandwich meme come from?

The clip comes from a recent episode of “Snack Wars,” launched by LADbible on YouTube, where he and Jon Favreau compare American and Chilean snacks. The meme’s moment takes place at 6:48 of the video when Pascal eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and has to decide if it compares to his favorite Chilean snack, “marraqueta con palta,” a crunchy bread with mashed-up avocado, olive oil, and salt.

After Pascal tries the pb & j, he’s left with a blank stare. Despite his long look, he claims he enjoyed the peanut butter sammy, but at the end of the day, there’s no comparison. The marraqueta con palta wins the battle, which you can read all over his face.

How is the meme being used?

The irony of the video is that it has been used on TikTok to explain situations where most people would lose control, but Pascal just enjoys his sandwich and lets the chaos unfold. Others have used the TikTok in a more literal sense, but most let Pascal’s expression tell the story. At one point or another, we’ve all been Pedro Pascal enjoying a sandwich just letting chaos of the situation unfold or the day pass by.
