If you have trouble sleeping, you need to read on. Maybe you’ve tried sleepy time tea or CBD in gummy or oil form, but the sleepy girl mocktail might be what you have to try next. The ruby-red juice mixture is going viral on TikTok for helping to put people to sleep.

What is a sleepy girl mocktail?

A sleepy girl mocktail is a mix of tart cherry juice, magnesium powder (optional), and the prebiotic soda, Olipop. Pour all the ingredients over ice and sip until sleepy. It’s unclear who originally came up with the concept, but TikToker Gracie Norton created the recipe most people reference.

What makes a sleepy girl mocktail sleep-inducing?

Cherries are a superfood that can aid sleep by increasing the amount of melatonin, a sleep hormone. Tart cherries also have small amounts of both melatonin and tryptophan, an amino acid used to produce serotonin and melatonin. Montmorency cherries are best for this mocktail, and you can purchase the juice at Target.

If you add magnesium to the mocktail, it helps the body regulate muscles and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure. It also helps you sleep by starting your parasympathetic nervous system, which is the system that helps you calm down and relax. Magnesium can also help your body’s dopamine levels which can help your mood.

Is the sleepy girl mocktail good?

The internet certainly thinks so. Lindsey Schmidt shares gut health tips and tricks on TikTok and made her own sleepy girl mocktail while explaining how this drinks helps with sleeping. She used the strawberry vanilla Olipop soda and says she drinks this 20 minutes to an hour before bed to help her relax.

Sierra Cooley also made her spin of a sleepy girl mocktail by using Thrive’s raspberry lemon magnesium powder and a lemon-lime Olipop. The mocktail helped her sleep really well, but the melatonin gave her vivid dreams, which didn’t help her anxiety. In her video, she says this isn’t the drink for you if you struggle with anxiety. She also says if you are a girlie with IBS or stomach problems, this can make your stomach problems worse.
