The 10 Best Poolside Snacks to Keep you Satisfied This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UFL chapter.

In my family, I’m always assigned the job of packing up all the snacks for the trip to the pool or the beach. To me, that sounds like a fun job, but I also have to keep in mind that these snacks should probably be on the healthier side to keep that #summerbod. These are some simple poolside snacks that you can bring on your next trip to the pool or beach.

1. Watermelon skewers with lime

When I think of summer fruits, the first thing that comes to mind is watermelon. It just completely embodies summer, right? Chop up your watermelon into cubes, skewer the cubes on a stick, and squeeze over some lime juice. It is both a refreshing and hydrating poolside snack.

2. Homemade trail mix

Trail mix is one of those snacks that I almost always make at home rather than buying it. Making your own trail mix at home ensures that it’s filled with all things you like, so you don’t have to go through and pick out the pesky raisins like I usually do.

3. Corn and bean salsa

Here in Florida, it’s basically summertime year round, so this is my go-to salad when I go to the beach or on a picnic with friends. Again, throw in whatever herbs you like and top it with a drizzle of olive oil and lemon.

4. Berry fruit salad with mint

When summertime comes around, berries are starting to go out of season, which usually means they are super cheap. Spice it up a little bit with some chopped mint on top.

5. Yogurt cups with nuts

Remember the little yogurt cups from the store that your mom used to pack in your lunch box? Take a package of those in a cooler with you to the pool and pack a container of nuts to put on top. My favorite are pistachios.

6. Peaches and cherries

Might seem random to pick these two fruits, but they are in peak season when summertime rolls around. I look forward to summer solely because I know I’ll get to eat SO many peaches and cherries. Plus, you can’t go wrong with fruit at the pool.

7. Avocado and mango salsa

A tropical mix that usually gets forgotten. This is super simple to prepare right before you head out the pool, and eat with tortilla chips or just a spoon.

8. Chocolate almond butter cups

You might be skeptical about this one melting, but just make sure to take a cooler with some ice packs for this poolside snack. The trouble is worth the chocolate.

9. Popsicles

I had to include popsicles, it’s just a summertime must-have. Popsicles + pools = summertime, it’s just logic. I think homemade popsicles are the best, because again, they are customizable. Make them with your favorite juice and pop in pieces of your favorite fruit. Refreshing and perfect for the poolside.

10. Kombucha

Not quite a snack, but definitely a satisfying poolside treat. Kombucha is a carbonated drink but with much less sugar than a pop (or soda, ugh) which makes it a refreshing alternative. You can get kombucha in flavors ranging from mango to pomegranate to ginger, all of which would quench your summer thirst.

Whether you are heading out for a whole day of poolside lounging or just making a quick snack for sitting out by your backyard pool, all of these snacks are easy to prepare and will most definitely satisfy your poolside cravings. Go grab a snack, and stay hydrated.
