Passover is a time of celebration. During this holiday, Jews are encouraged to eat only unleavened bread, known as Matzoh, for 8 days. Though plain matzoh tastes just fine, it serves as an even greater platform for delicious creations. Here are some of my favorite ways for how to step up your matzoh game, including sweet and also salty snacks.
1. Avocado “toast” with a fried egg
Avocado toast is always a delicious snack in my book–and a healthy one too. Instead of your typical slice of bread, you simply swap it for a piece or two of matzoh. This snack can be topped with a fried egg and if you are feeling extra fancy, maybe some “Trader Joes Everything But The Bagel” seasoning sprinkled on top? I say go for it. This breakfast time treat is a great way to start your day and can definitely be enjoyed after the holiday as well.
2.) Peanut butter and banana
As a peanut butter fanatic, this creation is the perfect way to get my peanut butter fix. Just like avocado, peanut butter (without added sugar) is also very healthy for you. The snack is simple: the peanut butter gets spread evenly on the matzoh. Then, banana slices are added overtop. Drizzle on some honey for some extra sweetness if desired!
3.) Matzoh “Crack”
Though the name may be deceiving, this snack contains zero drugs. Instead, it is called “crack” after its addictive nature and the way it gets broken into pieces at the end. Passover or not, matzoh “crack” never loses its dangerously addictive taste. The matzoh is first laid out on a baking sheet. Next, homemade caramel gets poured overtop. It is spread evenly, coating each piece. As if it wasn’t already delicious, a heavy handful of chocolate chips is added. As they melt, you can spread them all over the caramel layer. I know. All you have to do next is let it cool in the fridge or freezer and then “crack” it as desired.
4.) S’mores
Ah, a childhood classic. Ooey gooey marshmallow toasted by fire, a melted chocolate square and…(usually) a graham cracker. The twist here is that matzoh will replace this graham cracker and trust me…it is still just as good. Try it! You won’t regret it.
