Although what’s to come in 2025 is uncertain, there’s one New Year’s Eve tradition you know you can always count on: bubbly. It can be challenging, though, to find the best budget sparkling wines that taste delicious both solo or in cocktails , and don’t require a year’s worth of wealth and prosperity. Whether you’re celebrating 2024 with an over-the-top bash, watching the ball drop with roommates from your dorm, or ringing in the new year ay home with your family or significant other, there’s a perfect bottle of bubbles for every NYE celebration, from sundown to sunrise (including New Year’s Day mimosas, of course). No matter how you choose to ring in the start of 2024, here are the best budget wines for New Year’s.
#SpoonTip: Popping bubbly is fun, and so is being responsible. Spoon does not promote binge or underage drinking.
Trader Joe’s Prosecco, $9
Made within the DOC confines of northeastern Italy, this is a truly proper Prosecco. Each bubbly sip starts with a bouquet of wisteria flower and freshly sliced apples on the nose, which leads into well-balanced notes of stone fruit and toasted almond on the palette. This superb sparkler is great to keep on hand for evening countdowns and morning brunches alike.
La Marca Prosecco, $15
There’s a reason it’s America’s #1 Italian prosecco. This refreshing and aromatic wine features a delicate palate that’s stunningly contrasted with lively bubbles and a crisp, clean palate. Aromas of citrus and honeysuckle blossoms and notes of green apple, juicy peach and ripe lemon create a light and refreshing finish with a delectable hint of sweetness.
Roscato Rosso Dolce, $12
This delicately sweet, gently fizzy red wine from the northern Italian region of Lombardy makes for a wonderful aperitif for your NYE dinner party. Try pairing it with your favorite soft cheeses in a charcuterie appetizer.
Avissi Prosecco, $14
This sparkling wine has fine and persistent perlage, or bubbling, with fragrant aromas of honeysuckle with refreshing flavors of green apple and ripe pear. Plus, a delicate finish means it’s a superb aperitif and ideal pairing with any meal.
Martini & Rossi Prosecco DOC, $15
This dry, fruitful and versatile Prosecco is the perfect choice for an event with a lot of palates to please. Every sip is fresh and contains notes of thyme and apple, making it a perfect Prosecco to top off a spritz or enjoy it on its own alongside holiday hors d’oeuvres.
Casteller Cava Brut, $13
Cava, a Spanish wine, is made using the traditional “Champagne method” in which the second fermentation (which makes the bubbles) takes place inside the bottle. Since Cava is a sparkling wine produced on the Mediterranean where temperatures are warmer compared with Champagne, Cava wine typically has a gentler acid profile compared to its French counterpart — but it’s still perfectly bubbly.
Rosa Regale Sparkling Rosé (Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG), $20
This stunning bottle is a perfect addition to any holiday party and works especially well as a gift for your host. The subtly sparkling wine boasts fruity aromas of sweet grapefruit and orange blossom flowers, and a slightly sweet, well-balanced taste with a fresh acidity makes it an excellent pairing with semi-aged cheeses and charcuterie, or save it for the dessert course and enjoy with pastries.
Santa Margherita Prosecco DOCG, $22
Santa Margherita Prosecco DOCG is a renowned Italian sparkling wine known for its delicate balance and refreshing flavors that make it worth the extra $2. Crafted from Glera grapes in the prestigious Conegliano Valdobbiadene region, this prosecco offers a vibrant bouquet of floral and citrus notes, leading to a crisp and elegant palate with a fine, persistent mousse.
Kirkland Signature Prosecco, $8
This sparkling wine is one of my personal favorites, and its flavor profile and price point make it especially great for mixed drinks such as spritzes and New Year’s Day mimosas. The flavor is full of juicy green apple notes, and the bubbles are wildly effervescent, so it maintains its sparkling quality well even when mixed or diluted.
Kirkland Signature Prosecco Rose, 2020, $10
Like the classic Prosecco, Costco’s Prosecco Rose features lingering bubbles, but this time with rich berry and red fruit flavors. I love to drink this one plain, since the notes of tropical fruit and white flowers combined with berries on the palate and a clean finish are just that good.
#SpoonTip: Hosting a NYE party and don’t want to break the bank on holiday wines? Costco sells a variety six-pack of Kirkland Signature wines – including both proseccoes – for $100.
Gruet Brut, $13
Recommended to Spoon University by Phoenix-based sommelier Samantha Capaldi, Gruet’s Brut is a richly styled sparkling wine with spicy tropical fruit aromas and appealing baked apple, cinnamon and herb notes. Not only is this wine somm-approved, it was also voted the #1 Sparkling Wine on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Values in 2016.
Bodegas Naveran Brut Vintage Rosado 2022, $20
You need bubbles when it comes to the holidays, according to Tyler Balliet, a wine expert and author of Rebel School of Wine. One of Balliet’s budget-friendly recs is this premium Cava made from Pinot Noir and Parellada grapes, which is aged for over a year. This vintage rosado is known for its bright red fruit flavors and elegant texture that pair well with grilled chicken or pork, soft cheeses, fresh fruit, and richer red meats.
Barefoot Bubbly Brut Cuvé, $11
Barefoot Bubbly is a dry sparkling wine with notes of sliced apple, juicy peach, and kiwi. It’s crisp, with an ultra-satisfying pop perfect for champagne toasts. We recommend pairing it with salty popcorn or sharp cheeses.
Andre Brut, $10
Andre Brut is crisp, smooth, and perfectly sweet. Made from California green grapes, Andre Brut boasts refreshing fruity notes of green apple, pear, and sweet lemon. With lots of little bubbles and a slight sweetness, Andre is a great pair with seafood, and light enough to enjoy on its own. Or, you can also opt for Andre Extra Dry if that suits your preferences more.
Bodegas Montecillo Rioja Reserva, $19
You can’t go wrong by offering guests a glass of Spanish red wine, including this Montecillo Rioja Reserva. It’s perfectly fruity with a drier edge, but not so dry that your sweet-toothed friends will set it down. This pairs well with some New Year’s pizza slices, pasta and marinara sauce, and other tomato-forward dishes.
Rotari Brut Rosé, $16
This sparkling blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is red-berry forward (blackberry, cherry and raspberry) with hints of pineapple and white fruit. The sweetness is lifted by bubbles, making it an excellent complement to dessert – think cheesecake or chocolate lava cake.
La Marca Rosé Prosecco, $20
La Marca’s sparkling rosé won best cork pop, best color, and best rosé of the bunch. If you aren’t the biggest fan of rosé, this sparkling variation may just win you over with classic notes of citrus, honeysuckle, peach, and pear, blended beautifully with hints of ripe red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry. Not only is it the prettiest pink, but it’s also a light and effervescent sip that gives Coastal Grandma vibes. It would be a perfect NYE pop for the rosé-newbies or paired with fish tacos at New Year’s Day brunch.
Pine Ridge Sparkling Chenin Blanc + Viognier, $18
If you’ve got Champagne tastes and a sparkling wine budget, get the most bang for your New Year’s buck with this bottle. Pine Ridge Sparkling CB+V is a complex aromatic wine boasting a bouquet of pear, green apple, and honeydew melon complemented by lime, nectarine, lemongrass, and apricot. The wine has a perfect touch of acidity, with a refreshing and slightly creamy note before a crisp finish. We’d recommend pairing it with a classic charcuterie board or enjoying it alongside a spicy NYE appetizer – jalapeno poppers or smoked salmon dip, anyone?
Unshackled Sparkling Wine, $26
Okay, fine, maybe this one is a little over $20, but it’s so worth it. Unshackled’s Sparkling varietal is aged 36 months to ensure vibrant acidity and a crisp, clean finish. This wine is made with chardonnay and pinot noir, with notes of green and Fuji apples and Asian pear, as well as florals. It’s bright and refreshing and would pair well with a shellfish dinner during NYE celebrations.
Elouan Pinot Noir, $22
As the story goes, California winemaker Joseph Wagner headed to Oregon to craft the most delicious and budget-friendly Pinot Noir. The cooler Northwestern region lends itself to growing delectable red wine grapes perfect for crafting a deep, vibrant wine. You’ll definitely need to keep this on hand for your red wine-loving friends.
Veuve du Vernay Ice Rosé, $14
If you bring this to a party, your friends won’t believe that this pretty bottle costs less than $15. This light pink wine has hints of raspberry and is best served over ice. Plus, it mixes well in fruity cocktails such as a spritz or a vodka gimlet if you want to do a little more than bubbly as it is.
