2017 is just around the corner, and that means it's time to start menu planning for your New Year's party. Large groups means more chance to make a mess, finger foods are definitely the way to go.

Drinks may also be flowing at your New Year's party, so having one hand available for booze and the other for food will make it easier for your guests.

Some of these items are decadent and others lighter for fare. The point is to have a menu that won't leave your guests feeling stuffed, but you also don't want people leaving hungry. It's all about balance.

Before Midnight:

1. Spinach Artichoke Bites

Emma Lally

Spinach artichoke dip is a classic for any gathering, but these bites are the perfect replacement if you get stressed about potential double dipping.

2. Burrata Caprese Toast

sweet, vegetable, bread
Max Bartick

Caprese is a light and delicious combination, perfect for any occasion. To make it easier on your guests, use smaller slices of bread like crostinis.

3. Pretzel Bites

beef, meat, pork
Natsuko Mazany

Pretzel bites are perfect for a group. One dip in mustard and you're good to go. No fears of double dipping, here. Your guests drinking beer will also enjoy this snack.

4. Pecan Amaranth Brittle

Kristine Mahan

Yes, this is a healthy platter to serve to your guests. Don't be alarmed, though. Pecan brittle is a classic holiday treat, and it's fun to add something new like amaranth. Packed with protein, these little grains make the brittle crunchier than the standard.

5. Zucchini Corn Fritters

arugula, vegetable, cheese, salad, lettuce
Jake Popescu

Everyone loves a good corn fritter, so why not put some extra vegetables in it? Zucchini adds nutrients and flavor to an otherwise one-note snack.

6. Honey Sriracha Chicken

beef, rice, sauce, teriyaki, meat, chicken, pork
Rayna Mohrmann

Instead of serving over rice, stick a skewer through each piece of chicken and serve it on a platter.

7. Pizza Lollipops

chicken, bacon, pizza, sauce
Katherine Baker

Think of these lollipops as an upscale version of just serving your guests a slice of pizza.

8. Bacon Cheeseburger Meatball Skewers

falafel, pork, salad, lettuce, vegetable, tomato, meat, beef
Kennedy Rose

We all love a good burger, but that might be asking too much of your guests. Even sliders can often be messy and hard to eat. Enter, the skewer. All the flavor packed into a a bite-sized meatball.

9. Guacamole Fries

meat, chicken
Max Bartick

Reincorporate the classic chips and guac and serve your guests decadent fries.

10. Biscuits

chocolate, bread, biscuits

Biscuits are the perfect sustenance to add for your New Year's party. It's easy to put the dough in a couple muffin tins and in about 30 minutes you've got flaky, southern biscuits.

11. Rice Krispies Donut Bark

cookie, sweetmeat, cream, cake, goody, sweet, chocolate, sprinkles, candy
Dorothy Ballowe

This definitely won't be at your neighbor's New Year's party. It seems so strange that you've never thought of this idea before because it's really so simple.

12. Lemon Madeleines

cookie, flour, candy, chocolate, cake, pastry, sweet
Austin Lai

Lemon is a perfect flavor for the holidays. It's light, acidic, and airy compared to the heaviness that you've been gorging on throughout the holiday season.

13. Homemade Donuts

candy, cookie, chocolate, pastry, cake, sweet
Phoebe Melnick

Homemade donuts are a sure-fire way to impress your guests. Decorate with any frosting or toppings, you could even personalize them for each guest if you're feeling a bit extra.

14. Vegan Peppermint Patties

sprinkles, cream, peppermint, chocolate
Claire Rosenkilde

Don't be swayed by the fact that these are vegan. These peppermint patties are so easy to make, your New Year's guests will be asking if you have more of them before they realize they're vegan.

15. Cranberry Pistachio White Chocolate Fudge

dairy product, candy, cranberry, cream, sweet, pistachio, chocolate
Cassandra Bauer

Perfect little bites of fudge are guaranteed to make your guests happy.

After Midnight:

After the clock strikes twelve, your boozed-up guests might be craving some things a little more greasy.

16. Bacon-Wrapped Grilled Cheese

Katie Elliott

These things are as easy to make as they are to eat. They'll be a huge hit for your guests who have really been enjoying the bar.

17. Bacon Mashed Potato Cheese Bombs

cheddar, egg, cheese, bacon
Amy Erickson

Two menu items wrapped in bacon means some extremely satisfied New Year's guests.

May your New Year's party have limited spills, many laughs, and lots of love.

And just a reminder, if you're serving alcohol at your New Year's party, make sure your guests aren't driving home or off to their next location. Call them a cab or plan ahead to host them for the night.
