Tired of gorging on the same spooky treats every Halloween?While we all love the classics, give your tastebuds a break from Hershey's this year and try these unique, globally-inspired candies that you won't find in just any normal grocery store, unless, that is, Amazon counts as one (too soon?).
1. Pascall Pineapple Lumps
Native to New Zealand, these fruity treats are flavored with real pineapple juice and coated with a thin layer of milk chocolate. Their consistency resembles that of a marshmallow, and they're fun to eat once you can pull them apart from each other. Heads up: They taste much better than they look.
2. Maynards Wine Gums
Not a wine lover? That's OK, these delicious gummies don't actually contain any wine. Actually, they were named "wine gums" because tasting each of these unique candies is comparable to the flavor notes found in wine. If I can ever stop stuffing my face with these, I'll let you know what exactly these flavors may be.
3. Turrón Supercoco
Craving something tropical while chilly Halloween nights blow over? These caramel-flavored hard candies (don't bite them like I did!) are mixed with coconut flakes, mimicking the flavors of toasted coconut. Again, they taste better than they look — think next-level Mounds.
4. Smarties
No, I'm not talking about those nasty, chalky detergent tablets that you used to eat in elementary school. British Smarties are comparable to M&Ms. They are just as crunchy and colorful, yet give off slightly fruity flavors in the candy coating. Ditch M&Ms this Halloween for these unique candies if you want to feel all posh and proper.
5. Raspberry Kit Kats
Now, when I ordered all of this candy, I was actually hoping to get a sake-flavored Kit Kat. Unfortunately, they were out of stock, so I went with another flavor that's produced in Japan: raspberry. They are much sweeter than the original Kit Kats that we're used to, and these kind of reminded me more of a small pastry than chocolate. That said, I definitely want to try some of the other Kit Kat flavors!
6. Kasugai Ramune Candy
On the subject of Japanese candies, these gummies are flavored by a soft drink native to Japan. The name "ramune" is derived from the English word "lemonade," but it most closely tastes like bubblegum to me. If you've ever tasted bubblegum so good that you wanted to eat it, I guess this is your lucky day!
7. Jelly Belly Champagne Bubbles
These champagne bubbles are non-alcoholic, but they're as fun and delicious to eat as champagne is to drink! Actually, they're definitely more delicious. Not convinced? They're made by Jelly Belly, the masters of the jelly bean trade.
There are tons of other unique candies to choose from if you know where to look this Halloween. Sure, Snickers and Reese's will always be in stores, but when you're ready to try something new, this list is a great place to start.
