Reviews Are Mixed Over The Food At The New McDonald’s Spinoff, CosMc’s

Are you ready for a new space age? McDonald’s launched a new spin-off restaurant with a space theme, CosMc’s, filled with menu items like you might not expect from a traditional McDonald’s. Fancy drinks, ice cream, and savory items to balance it all off are invading and might be near you soon.

What is CosMc’s?

This drive-thru only chain has a retro 50s space vibe and specializes in drinks and cafe-esque food items. CosMc’s is an ‘answer to Starbucks’ and is a revamped McCafe. It very well could be, although the restaurant gives off vibes of a Sonic, down to the retro theme, hash browns, and slushy drinks. Although that’s just my opinion.

CosMc is actually the name of an old forgotten McDonald’s character in the 80s and early 90s who appeared in media like commercials and video games. Kind of interesting that McDonald’s keeps that tight of a hold on their old characters and are bringing them out again in modern day, like with the Grimace Shake.

What are people saying about CosMc’s food?

User @Snackolator on TikTok posted a review of the food and drinks at the soft launch Texas location of a CosMc’s yesterday. He tried a Sour Cherry Energy Burst, which is a lightly slushed fruity drink with boba. After a few sips, he described it as “super tart.” Other fruity, slushified drinks, called ‘Galactic Bursts’ on the menu, include Berry Hibiscus Sour-Ade, Island Pick-Me-Up Punch, and Blueberry Ginger Boost. All the drinks are customizable, and you can add things like boba, flavors, or even shots of vitamin C.

Snackolator also tried hash brown bites, McPops — small filled donuts — and a caramel fudge sundae with chocolate ice cream. He was impressed by all of them, noting that they all had things that made them even better than McDonald’s versions. He especially loved the chocolate ice cream, as well as a sour cream and chive flavor to the hash browns.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, TikTok user @purodesmadre81 hated everything she tried at the Illinois location except for the hash browns (but still thinks they are a rip off for the price of $3 for four hash browns). She took one sip of a S’mores Cold Brew and immediately made a gagging face. She ranked it a zero out of 10, noting it looked nothing like the picture. She also tried the tomatillo sandwich and ranked four out of 10. When it comes to the McPops, @purodemadre81 would “rather go to Dunkin’.”

Another review from TikTok user @Ksnickss described CosMc’s “like Starbucks, but McDonald’s.”. She waited in line for 40 minutes, as the newly opened CosMc’s was swamped with guests, and ordered a S’mores Cold Brew, a tomatillo sandwich, and the McPops. She confirmed the cold brew looks nothing like the picture, but did enjoy the flavor. The McPops “slay,” although she wished they were warm. The tomatillo sandwich is met with a “woah, that’s really good” after one bite. “Overall, we’re going to give it a seven out of 10,” she said about CosMc’s as a whole.

Where are the CosMc’s locations?

Currently, the only locations are in Illinois and Texas, but more locations are expected to start popping up. The CosMc’s locations are more expensive than a regular McDonald’s, but perhaps the flavor might be worth it. We will just have to wait and see for ourselves.
