10 National Food Holidays to Celebrate This September

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Syracuse chapter.

With the start of September comes the promise of fall and pumpkin spice and sweater weather. It also means that the school year is in full swing, and we could use a little food therapy. It’s going to be a good month, so why not make it even better by celebrating some yummy food! Throughout the month grab your coziest sweater, and your favorite treat to celebrate the best of the best September food holidays!

September 5- National Cheese Pizza Day

Pizza is a classic no matter what time of day it is or what mood you’re in. Don’t get wrong, I love a good pepperoni or veggie slice, but more often than not, I reach for a plain cheese slice. Keeping it simple is always the way to go in book, so you can’t go wrong ordering a cheese slice (or pie) to celebrate this iconic food.

September 9- National “I love food” Day

I don’t feel like this needs much explaining, but today is a day for you to eat literally anything you want and not care or feel guilty. It’s the ultimate cheat day, and if you’re like me, you’re going all out. No regrets guys, no regrets.

September 12- National Chocolate Milkshake Day

Nothing screams all-American like a milkshake, and today you should be ordering a chocolate one. I personally prefer any other flavor shake over chocolate, but I can appreciate the appeal. Chocolate makes everything better so naturally a day dedicated to a sweet chocolaty frozen drink will make all your sorrows melt away. Spice it up with candy or cookie pieces– or don’t, whatever you prefer! Either way, you’ll be sippin good tonight.

September 13- National Peanut Day

If you’re allergic to peanuts, today might not be your favorite day, but for those of you who aren’t, get ready to celebrate with endless peanut filled recipes! Peanuts are a great nut because you can make so many different things. Peanut butter is an obvious go-to, but you can also try peanut brittle, peanut butter cups, and more!

September 15- National Linguini Day

When you go out for dinner tonight, make sure to order oodles of noodles!!! Linguini is kind of an underrated noodle, though not my fave. I’m sure many of you are thinking: is there even a difference between linguini and spaghetti? Yes, yes there is. While they’re both long skinny noodles, spaghetti is round while linguini is flat. Commonly served with seafood, linguini is one of those good ol’ classic Italian noodles.

September 16- National Guacamole Day

I love a good chips and guac appetizer, but let’s be honest, who’s even in it for the chips? It’s all about the guac. I use my Nutri-Bullet to make homemade guacamole alllll the time because I’m a broke college student and yes, I know, guac is extra. And unfortunately, today is no exception. However, National Avocado Day in July was? How rude!

September 18- National Cheeseburger Day

Last month we celebrated National Burger Day, but this is clearly VERY different and clearly MUCH more important. I’ve said this a million times, and don’t worry, I’ll say it a million more: CHEESE MAKES EVERYTHING BETTER. I don’t have much else to say on this; it’s just a simple fact. The luxuriousness of gooey melted cheese melting down a juicy burger is literally what I imagine heaven to look like.

September 23- National White Chocolate Day

Let me just start by saying that I do not like milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is just better, and I will fight it until the day I die. So, I was happy to see one of milk chocolate’s overshadowed counter-parts get the respect it deserves. White chocolate is good if prepared correctly, meaning DO NOT eat it plain. It’s not meant for that, at least in my ~professional~ opinion. Anything raspberry goes well with white chocolate, and anything with tropical fruits (coconuts, citrus, pineapple). I think the best reason to use white chocolate is to cut acidity and saltiness in something. So, white chocolate Kit-Kats? No. White chocolate macadamia nuts? Heck to the yes.

September 26- National Pancake Da

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and once pancakes get involved, the game is changed. Perhaps the BEST breakfast food there is, pancakes 150% deserve today (and every day). They’re just so versatile: chocolate chips, bananas, blueberries, peanut butter, Oreos, pumpkin, the list goes on and on! Today is the ONLY day you will see me up bright and early, but of course, I’ll be heading to get some pancakes.

September 29- National Coffee Day

Today presents the PERFECT reason to have your normal six cups a day without having to explain yourself. This news is even better for all you basic betches out there who only drink coffee if it’s in PSL form. Get your hands on a coveted PSL before all the other “coffee lovers” out there snag them. If you’re too little too late though, you can head to Dunkin or Krispy Kreme for sweet deals.
