4 Delicious Smoothies to Make This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Syracuse chapter.

Some people say love or money makes the world go ’round. But in my opinion, it’s smoothies. As summer is slowly approaching, what better way to celebrate than by drinking summery, organic smoothies on the beach or at a nearby pool?

When I sit down at the beach during the summertime with an ice cream popsicle, I always regret not choosing a healthy smoothie. Smoothies are easy to make, and can quench the needs of any type of eater. Unlike protein shakes, smoothies can provide many healthy goodies such as antioxidants and vitamins. With many flavors options, they are also open for customization to any type of eater, even picky eaters (shoutout to my non-pasta eating brother). So, enjoy these top smoothie recipes, preferably while soaking up the sun this summer.

1. Tropical Smoothie Bowl

While smoothies are mostly sipped in a cup, you can try a smoothie bowl as an option. I love smoothie bowls. You can put so many toppings on them, and toppings are the best.

One of my all time favorite smoothie bowls uses a tropical-flavored smoothie. In this bowl, you can pick and choose which fruits you want and what liquid “base” you want to use, such as almond milk. From pineapple to coconut and mango chunks, this smoothie bowl will take ya to Aruba, Jamaica. Oh it’s gonna take ya to Bermuda Bahama, c’mon pretty mama. (Sorry, had to.) To add something even more tropical, you can sprinkle on some coconut flakes.

2. Classic Berry Smoothie

Another one of my favorite smoothies is the classic berry smoothie. You can add a personal spin to the classic berry, by adding strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or even all of the above. One of my favorite pick-me-up smoothies is the Berry Powerful smoothie from Liquiteria. Having a berry smoothie full of rich antioxidants and healthy fruits can give you the extra push you need to keep up with your summer day.

3. A Lean Clean Green Smoothie

Many of my friends have said they love a sweet, tangy, and savory drink, and a green smoothie does the trick. Filled with kale, vegetables, and other green-themed appetizing nutrients, I feel like a green smoothie can cure any hangover. Both easy and simple to make, you can put your own personal spin on the smoothie.

The Simple Green Smoothie company has their own app where you can see other people’s smoothie masterpieces and other smoothie recipes if you’re lacking inspiration.

4. Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

For me, having a smoothie with some sweet element to it is a must. I don’t know about you, but I need some type of sweetness in my smoothie, like peanut butter. For all of the sweet tooths out there, a peanut butter and banana, and even some chocolate if you’re feeling adventurous, not only gives you a high amount of potassium, but gives you a sip of healthy fat. Peanut butter is one of my top 10 cravings and creating something healthy out of it makes it feel less guilty of a craving.

And there you have it—the top smoothies you should consume this summer. While you’re soaking up the sun, be sure to grab a smoothie to sip on rather than a sugar-filled drink like a blue raspberry slushie. While a slushie might sound good, a smoothie will fill you up and leave you feel more hydrated and refreshed.
