8 Food Pairs as Dumb as National Friendship Day

National Friendship Day is approaching, and most people probably don’t know what it is or have strong opinions on it. Basically, one day a year, at the end of July/beginning of August is set aside to spoil and appreciate your friends.

I believe being a good friend should be something that’s done every day and not once a year, which essentially makes this day useless. Here’s a list of nine food pairings that are just as dumb as this “holiday.”

1. Pizza dipped in milk

Pizza already has dairy included in it because of the cheese, but dipping pizza in milk sounds like a disaster. It’s like putting vanilla icing on a hot dog — you just don’t do it.

2. Salads and iced coffee

I’ve never understood why people would want to drink iced coffee with essentially what is mostly lettuce. I’ve also never understood why people would only want to choose to appreciate their friends when it’s convenient for them, but that’s another story.

3. Ice in milk.

Ice in milk will make your milk colder, but it will also really water it down. If you really want frozen milk, get some ice cream. #problemsolved

4. Chicken and waffles

Don’t get me wrong, I love chicken just as much as the next person since it’s a solid form of protein. However, what I don’t like is how it’s just thrown onto waffles. I get that it’s meant to be “sweet and salty,” but it’s more or less just waffles with meat on top of it.

5. Ketchup on pasta

I understand that tomato sauce and ketchup both have the same main ingredient of tomato in them, but ketchup is basically a thin cheap version of tomato sauce, and your pasta deserves the best possible version of its sauce, just like what your friends deserve.

6. Sweet potatoes and beet sauce

Sweet potatoes are sweet, and so is beet sauce. Put the two together and it’s way too sweet. Also, the flavor of the beets just doesn’t go well with the flavor of the sweet potatoes.

7. Pancakes and vodka

While most people here in the western hemisphere of the world probably don’t do this, I can guarantee you that someone, somewhere has either tried to do this, has done it, or does it daily. Props to them, but the harshness of vodka just doesn’t pair well with the fluffiness of pancakes

8. Borscht and everything else

Borscht is incredibly sour and is mostly beets with some sour cream. While most people would say to pair it with a potato, you’re probably not going to eat that potato bland.

While I highly suggest avoiding these food pairs, I also highly suggest appreciating your friends on a daily basis and not just once a year or when it’s convenient for you to do so.
