10 Desserts You Didn’t Know You Could Make in Your Slow Cooker

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Fairfield chapter.

Slow cookers have been coming back in a big way. They are affordable and easy—all you have to do is turn it on and go on with the rest of your day. From your classic chili or soup to pizza, you can pretty much do anything. But what if I told you you could make desserts in your slow cooker? I love baking desserts, but sometimes I don’t have all the time in the world to spend my entire day in the kitchen. The slow cooker will be your new best friend when it comes to making desserts, trust me. Here are 10 slow cooker desserts you should try making.

1. Brownie Pudding

There’s nothing I love more than a gooey brownie out of the oven. With this recipe from Crazy for Crust, you get a gooey, chocolatey, lava cake-type brownie. What more could you ask for? But you’re going to have to wait two hours to eat this bad boy. I know what I’ll be making for dessert tonight.

2. Molten Chocolate Lava Cake

Let’s take the slow cooker brownie to the next level by making an actual molten chocolate lava cake. This cake is one of my personal favorites because of the gooey chocolate center and it couldn’t be easier using your slow cooker. Serve it with vanilla ice cream, and you’re in for a real treat.

3. Cinnamon Rolls

Okay so this might not be your typical dessert of choice. But who says you can’t have dessert for breakfast? Slow cooker cinnamon rolls are the next best thing you need on your brunch menu this Sunday. For an easy fix, you can even use store-bought cinnamon rolls and people will still think you’re a pro!

4. Hot Chocolate

I’m sure you’ve probably tried making homemade hot chocolate the standard way, but for some extra decadence why not try  a recipe using your slow cooker? It’s super easy and will feed a crowd.

5. Fudge

I bet you didn’t think you could make a simple recipe like fudge in your slow cooker. Instead of turning the microwave on and off waiting for chocolate to melt, make your life easier by using your slow cooker.

6. Apple Crisp

There’s nothing like apple pie in the fall. And although I do love a good pie curst it can be tedious to make it by hand and roll it out. So make life easier and try a crisp in your slow cooker. Worried that it won’t be crispy after cooking for a long time? Check out Gimme Some Oven’s recipe for a few pro tips.

7. Monkey Bread

This fun pull-apart dessert gets taken to the next level with cinnamon rolls. Making monkey bread in a slow cooker makes it extra doughy, making it the perfect dessert for brunch. You can be a monkey bread pro too with this awesome recipe.

8. Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Hold up, you can make chocolate chip cookies in the slow cooker too? If you’ve ever craved cookies but didn’t want to turn on your oven, this is the perfect recipe for you. You can customize it by adding in your favorite candy or nuts.

9. Berry Crumble

Another crisp recipe on the list. You can pretty much do anything with fruit in the slow cooker—that’s what makes it so versatile. This recipe tastes like a crumbly cookie so you can pretend like you’re being healthy with the fruit and all.

10. Caramel Cake

Believe it or not, you can make a cake in your slow cooker. You just dump your favorite cake mix in, add ingredients, and there you have it. This is a caramel cake, but if you’re not a caramel fan, use your favorite cake mix and customize your own way!

Impress your friends by making any one of these slow cooker desserts. They won’t believe how easy it was, but I’m sure they will be begging you for the recipe.
