The time has come, Directioners. It seems that our favorite lads are ending their five years of greatness and moving on to bigger, maybe better, and different things. Are you emotional? Because, I sure am.
They recently released a new music video, out of nowhere, and have thrown their fans for a loop. Goodbye healthy new year diet, hello comfort food to accompany the tears and nostalgia. While watching the video for their single, “History,” I couldn’t help but think about food (what’s new?) and wonder what dish would best help accompany the emotions.
Here’s what I came up with:
1. Peanut Butter & Jelly
#TBT to when One Direction was on X Factor, had five members instead of four, and owned their bieber-esque style. The first three seconds of the video will have you feeling nostalgic, no doubt. Immediate thought about food: peanut butter and jelly sandwich, please.
#FBF to sitting on the beach, regretting that you fed the seagulls, and sipping on water while actually enjoying eating carbs without worrying about weight and taking that enjoyment a level up with peanut butter and jelly. The historical vibes are alive in this video for sure, and what better way to suppress the emotions than to greet them with a classic PB&J and glass of milk.
2. Cinnamon Rolls
This group of, now, 4 British lads are strong when it comes to the group hug game. What better way to end a show, or career, than with a circle of love that looks like a perfectly rolled cinnamon roll. Check out this recipe to make your own cinnamon rolls that will comfort you through the breakup rumor.
3. A whole pint of Ben & Jerry’s
Personal pint of ice cream, please. What better way to heal your feels than with the greatest and richly flavored ice cream ever. It’s worth the extra dollars, for sure. Pair that carton of Cherry Garcia with wine and you’re golden.
4. Baked goods from W. Mandeville bakery
I mean, Harry used to work at this bakery, so why not just fly out to Holmes Chapel right now to visit it and buy a delicious treat? Or, since we’re all living on college budgets, maybe making our own death by chocolate cake in the microwave is your best bet. Curl up on the couch afterwards and watch music video after music video after music video.
5. Carrots
Are you even a One Direction fan, if you don’t know why I wanted carrots?
6. Bananas
It’s only appropriate that Harry wears a yellow shirt. If you wait for it, a clip of him riding a banana appears towards the end. Distract yourself from your emotions and learn new ways to eat bananas. You only live once, so might as well learn as many new tricks as you can.
7. Popcorn
Obviously all I want to do is cuddle up with a blanket, light some candles, and turn on the This Is Us movie with popcorn in hand. Spice up your popcorn while you’re at it, because anything with chocolate can cure all problems.
8. Twix
Ah, the days of braces. Never forget. How embarrassing was it when you got kernels of popcorn or pieces of sour patch kids stuck in your teeth? Very.
Clips in the video feature Niall with braces, what a little cutie he was, but it had me craving Twix because I’ll never forget how delicious it was to have my first Twix after getting my braces off. Bless up because no need to worry anymore about getting sticky foods in between metal wires in your mouth, but you can make your own Twix like this.
9. Greens and grains bowl
Clips of Harry and Liam shirtless are fitness motivation, for sure, and serve as a reminder to return to your new years’ resolution of healthy eating. Greens and grains, aka a quinoa bowl with kale or spinach, is so delicious and satisfying to all taste buds.
Treat yourself to a little Phish Food afterwards and you’ll feel good as new; slowly moving on from the reality that One Direction is truly reaching an end. It’s been a good run, laddies. #RIP
