13 Things You’d Eat If You Lived in Panem

Even though The Hunger Games isn’t the most light-hearted movie ever produced, it doesn’t mean you don’t wish you could attend a party in the Capitol and eat all that amazing food. Here’s what you’d eat if you lived in Panem:

1. Pumpkin Brew

After a long day of working in the coal mine, nothing tastes better on a fall day than the taste of warm, soup.  Even though pumpkin has a stigma of being “basic,” remember we are in Panem now. This soup is sprinkled with slivered nuts and tiny black seeds.

2. Mr. Mellark’s Cookies

To eat these delicious cookies, you will have to travel to District 12 and venture down to the Mellark Bakery.

3. The Capitol’s Frosty Raspberry Soup

When you think about a cold soup, your mind goes to gazpacho. The thing is there are many different types of cold soups, like this raspberry one that’s served in the Capitol.

4. Katniss Arena Groosling Soup

Whether you are fighting for your life in the Games or watching at home, this savoury soup is perfect for any occasion.

5. Goose Liver and Puffy Bread

Nothing is better than buttery bread and meat.  This rare savory pastry is available on the trains for the tributes about to enter the Games.

6. Mellark’s Bakery Goat Cheese and Apple Tarts

One of Peeta’s favorite pastries from the bakery, these pastries are on the more expensive side.  Go out one day with your friend Katniss and catch a few extra rabbits to taste on of these.

7. Pale Purple Melon

While you’re at a party in the Capitol, you can’t miss out on this purple melon. It tastes like normal red watermelon but is way sweeter.

#SpoonTip: Make it by adding food dye to cantaloupe or honeydew.

8. Orange Juice

Orange juice is probably one of the most known hangover cures out there.  When you’re waking up from a wild Capitol party, down this in the morning.

9. Fish Stew With Greens

Sometimes a hot homecooked meal is all you need to forget for a little bit about the state of your government. This soup can’t solve Panem’s problems, but it’s damn good.

10. Peeta’s Burnt Nut and Raisin Bread

In Panem, bread is one of your closest allies. Head to District 12 and get some of this nut and raisin bread from the bakery.

12. Prim’s Goat Cheese-Stuffed Grape Leaves

Make friends with Prim from District 12 to get some of these perfectly wrapped goat cheese in basil leaves. This cheese is perfect to put on bread from Mellark Bakery.

13. A Cake For President Snow

I know having a meal with president snow is something that you just have to grin and bear, but a nice white rose cake makes it worth it.  Just when you’re around Snow, stay away from the berries.
