Prepackaged crescent rolls are an American household staple. Their iconic taste and texture are fine alone, but they can be elevated to another level with some simple add-ins.

Three ingredients can transform the prepackaged dough for crescent rolls into something truly special. Get inspired with these flavor combinations and impress anyone you choose to share them with.

1. Pancetta, Sharp White Cheddar Cheese, and Spinach

A lot of flavor and textures are happening here. When the fatty and salty pancetta cooks through, the sharp cheddar provides a creamy and bitey contrast. On top of that, spinach cuts the heavier ingredients on the palette.

2. Chicken Sausage, Mushrooms, and Swiss Cheese

Chicken sausage is one of my favorite things in life, mostly because you can buy it fully cooked and avoid any risk undercooking it. Savory Swiss cheese is a great compliment to the earthy flavor of cooked mushrooms.

3. Sweet Potato, Onion, and Kale

One of my roommates was hesitant to try this one because of the kale, but when it's cooked it has a nice crunch compared to the soft sweet potato.

Sweet potatoes are a great source of Vitamin A, adding them to crescent rolls can make you feel better about eating so many. If you're still looking for more ways to incorporate sweet potatoes into your diet, try sweet potato toast, breakfast bowls, or vegan mac 'n cheese.

4. Zucchini, Salami, and Pecorino Romano Cheese

meat, sausage, pork, bacon, ham, beef, salami

The cooked chunks of zucchini pair nicely with the saltiness of Pecorino Romano, and the salami gets crispy when baked. Zucchini is one of those versatile ingredients I think you should always have on hand.

5. Pesto, Tomato, and Mozzarella Cheese

It's impossible to go wrong with this combination of Italian-inspired flavors. Spread the pesto on the crescent roll dough before topping with tomatoes and mozzarella. You can even make your own pesto if you're feeling adventurous.

Roll Those Bad Boys Up:

bread, cheese, dough, pastry

Whatever variation and quantity of each ingredient you've chosen, roll them up on a lined cookie sheet with non-stick spray. Pop in the oven for the time indicated on the package and let that savory goodness waft.

Take them out of the oven, and let rest for a few minutes before devouring. Plate those beauties up and enjoy. They're guaranteed to go quickly whatever variation you bake up.
