Breyers Introduces Lactose Free Ice Cream

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Wake Forest chapter.

The Scoop

Ice cream is one of my all-time favorite foods, perfect for hot summer days and endless late night Netflix binges. Unfortunately, those who are lactose intolerant do not have the same luxury. Finding a tasty and affordable lactose free ice cream can often prove to be nearly impossible, leaving many lactose intolerant ice cream lovers feeling left out and hungry.

Luckily for all of those lactose intolerant ice cream lovers out there, Breyers has released the perfect product. In addition to their already amazing lineup of almond milk based, non-dairy ice creams, Breyers has added lactose free vanilla and chocolate flavors.

Both of these new flavors are 1/2 the fat and 1/3 fewer calories than regular ice cream. I definitely can’t hate the extra health benefits. And at 4 dollars per half-gallon, this ice cream is as wallet friendly as it is delicious.

The best part is that these flavors taste no different than regular ice cream. Healthier alternatives to some of our favorite indulgent foods can often be disappointing, but according to Dubba Scoops, Breyers lactose free products tastes the same as regular ice cream, only with a slightly different texture.

Dairy Free vs. Lactose Free

So what’s the difference between dairy free and lactose free ice cream? Over 30 million Americans have lactose intolerance issues, making Breyers’ line of lactose free ice cream a perfect option. Lactose free doesn’t necessarily mean dairy free, but is safe for those who are lactose intolerant. However, those allergic to dairy should seek out Breyers’ line of dairy free, almond milk based ice cream to ensure no allergic reactions occur.

If you’re lactose intolerant and looking to reintroduce the wonders of ice cream into your diet, check out Breyers’  lactose free chocolate and vanilla flavors. These delectable flavors can be found nationwide in most supermarkets and retailers such as Walmart and Target.
