Post Finals Drinks All UBC Students Should Have

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UBC chapter.

It’s time to finally chuck all those textbooks out the window and get your crazy on. Through blood, sweat, and tears (many, many tears), you’ve grinded through those all-nighters, and as the saying goes, “work hard, play hard“.

We’ve got a list of drinks that every UBC student should have to celebrate the end of finals. We’re getting the ball rolling with some of our favorite classic alcoholic drinks, for all you UBC party animals who know how to have a good time.

It’s a tradition, it’s a ritual– call it what you like. Whether you like tequila or vodka more, as a UBC student you have to down at least one shot from The Pit. In fact, the last Pit Night is happening this week– the perfect opportunity.

Get Bubbly

Open until the last day of exams (Dec 21), head over to Koerner’s Pub for some light bubbly Montelvini Prosecco to properly celebrate with class.

Rosé All Day

Calling all of the rosé fans out there. I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of anything rosé, and that includes the delectable drink “Rosé All Day” from The Bimini

Oh Honey

Honestly, you can grab a swig of any beer at Mahony & Sons, and have a great time. I would recommend the Granville Island Honey Lager, mainly because I’m not a fan of Western ales or beers, although this one is an exception. Any beer from this pub screams that How I Met Your Mother vibe you’ve always been looking for.

There’s still a sh*t ton of drinks that I haven’t tried in the downtown clubbing scene, although so far, my favorite has to be this sweet-almost-like-a-jolly-rancher drink from The Famous Warehouse

Santa Clausmopolitan

Nothing’s better than a drink that’s been fit for the festivities. Check out this Spooner’s original take on a cosmopolitan with a Christmas twist.

Just remember that when you’re going to get boozy, check yourself before you wreck yourself (that includes drinking responsibly). Check out this drinking tip to avoid getting drunk.

Having said that, we know that not everyone is into the party scene and that’s totally okay too. We’ve got you covered with these fabulous drinks.

Everything Matcha

Drink juice milk
Kristine Mahan

As good as the OG hot chocolate is, you have got to try out this matcha version too. Even though I was skeptical of it at first, it turned out surprisingly good. Don’t knock it until you try it.

Pamper with Peppermint

Drink herb tea
Rehmat Babbar

This is peppermint drink is perfect for the Christmas holidays as it fits in well with the festivities. Enjoy this peppermint tea with a nice slice of cake, while reading your favorite book by the fireplace all tucked in a cozy chair. That’s right, it’s time to recreate that stereotypical storybook scene.

A Different Kind of Bubbly

Drink espresso sweet

It wouldn’t truly be Vancouver if I didn’t include bubble tea. For all of you Asians out there (or bubble tea fans), check out how you can make your own homemade bubble tea. It’s finally time to get your Asian fix.

Candid Coffee

I’m no coffee connoisseur, but I have had my decent share of drinking coffee (more like chugging it down at midnight to finish that term paper). Nothing’s more soothing than sipping on a big mug of coffee during the snowy winter here in Vancouver. Here’s a list of coffee shops that you should check out.

All in all, here’s to surviving finals, and praying that we’ll still make it through next semester without crying over our GPA. Happy holidays!
