3-Ingredient Chocolate Ice Cream That Will Prove Itself Worthy of Every Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at UBC chapter.

With exam stress creeping up, or already there, this is the three-ingredient chocolate ice cream you need. With three ingredients that make it as healthy as a frozen smoothie, it also only requires a blender or food processor, and barely any work.

If you didn’t know, bananas are magical when frozen. This recipe works off that magic. Alone when blended, it’s already a great base for ice-cream, as 1-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream is also a thing.

This recipe is a chocolate base that can be taken easily to the next level with these irresistible vegan toppings.

Be creative and don’t be afraid to stuff your face this exam season.

Instructions

  1. Catherine Wong

    Gather ingredients.

  2. Catherine Wong

Peel and slice all 3 bananas into smaller pieces.

#SpoonTip: Smaller pieces (around 1-inch blocks) will make blending easier later on.

  3. Catherine Wong

Put cut bananas into a freezer bag and seal. Transfer the bag of bananas to the freezer and leave it for at least three hours.

  4. Catherine Wong

Measure out 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder.

  5. Catherine Wong

Add 1 tablespoon of honey to the cocoa powder.

  6. Catherine Wong

Remove bag of frozen bananas from the freezer and pour into blender. Also pour the previously made cocoa powder and honey mixture to the blender.

  7. Catherine Wong

Close blender and blend with the highest power setting on your blender.

#SpoonTip: You may need stop the blender and use a spoon to help move things around before continuing.

  8. Catherine Wong

    Blend until everything is mixed.

#SpoonTip: It should go from a chunky mixture, to gooey, to a creamy ice cream texture. Don’t worry if it remains gooey or is too soft for your liking. Pour it back into the freezer bag and freeze for a few more hours if it’s not the consistency you like.

  9. Catherine Wong

Scoop ice cream and enjoy. Even decorate it with your favorite toppings or sauces if you like.

I honestly didn’t think frozen and blended banana would create the same creamy yet solidified texture of ice cream. In this recipe, if your bananas are ripe, but not too ripe, the ice cream tastes more chocolatey rather than banana. Compared to the other more complicated no churn ice cream recipes I’ve made, it was much faster. When frozen solid, it could be left out briefly to allow it to melt into an ice cream consistency.

This three-ingredient chocolate ice cream recipe really is stress-free and quick for the days you crave ice cream but don’t have the time to go out and buy it.
