Today, I woke up with my usual pang of hunger and an intense matcha craving. I immediately thought to make a matcha smoothie and quickly googled a recipe. But it was too boring for my liking, so I started throwing everything but the kitchen sink under my immersion blender’s blade. These are some of my triumphs.
I started with a basic recipe that can become the foundation for a few different matcha smoothies. It’s easy to add more ingredients to upgrade this base flavor. Throw everything in a blender and blend to your desired consistency.

My personal favorite was just simply adding strawberries to the basic matcha smoothie. Any of the added fruit can be frozen, as well as the spinach, but I found the best flavors came from fresh fruit and fresh spinach.

The soft peach taste gives the smoothie a strong matcha flavor. Nectarines could also be used instead of peaches.

Of course, like in other smoothies, the matcha smoothie combinations are endless. I am a fruity girl and tend to lean towards adding fruits but you can add just about anything, even protein powders or different vegetables. Spinach makes a good additive because its nutrient-packed, and it doesn’t take away flavor from the sweet fruits. Plus, it makes the green color even more healthy looking. So when you need to fulfill those matcha cravings and want to turn it into a meal, a smoothie will do the trick.
