5 Natural Remedies That Reduce Redness in Your Skin

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Stedwards chapter.

Have you ever been so frustrated that your face turned red? Or maybe you just had an intense workout that left you looking like a tomato? For me, my acne has had a huge role in my facial redness. So I’ve managed to find some healthy and natural ways to kick it in the butt once and for all.

1. Cucumber Masks

Cucumber has been documented as a natural home remedy for years. Recommendations for the best results are to peel and grate a cucumber or put it through a food processor to use as a face mask. For a little something extra, mix one tablespoons of yogurt with the cucumber puree and apply for 15 minutes.

2. Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal oatmeal can benefit any kind of facial redness. What is colloidal oatmeal, you may be asking? It’s nothing more than pulverized oats, and often comes in lotion form. Not only does it have moisturizing, soothing, protective, and anti-inflammatory properties, but it also lowers potential for irritation.

If you want to take the easy route, Aveeno sells many products like lotions and bath treatments that use colloidal oatmeal. To make colloidal oatmeal yourself, simply blend oats to a fine consistency and mix with warm water. Rub the mixture on your face, let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse off.

3. Honey

Soothe your skin with a honey mask! Rinse your skin with water and rub honey all over your face, leaving it for around 30 minutes before rinsing. Let the natural anti-inflammatory properties work their magic.

4. Chamomile Tea

Not only is this method inexpensive, it’s effortless. Simply brew some tea bags, letting them steep for 8 to 10 minutes, and then refrigerate until cold. They soothe your skin like a wet washcloth would, but the chamomile adds anti-inflammatory properties. If you have an isolated red area, feel free to lay back and apply the wet bag to your skin for five minutes. Afterwards, you can enjoy the tea you just brewed!

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a very easy plant to keep and utilize in many ways. To use it to reduce redness, simply wash your face with warm water, cut the leaf open, and squeeze out the gel. Apply a thin layer, let dry, and then rinse off with cold water.

If you’re still looking for some natural quick fixes to remedy your redness, you can always try changing up your diet or playing with your food.
