12 Places to Eat Near Seton Hall’s IHS Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Seton Hall chapter.

While Seton Hall may be known for their main campus in South Orange,  students commute to SHU’s Interprofessional Health Sciences campus in Nutley, NJ to study medicine, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, athletic training and speech language pathology.

From breakfast and lunch to drinks and dessert, Spoon has rounded up the best eats near Seton Hall’s IHS Campus to fuel our Pirates in the healthcare industry.

1. Sugar Tree Café

358 Passaic Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110

@SugarTreeCafe is a gourmet coffee shop transforming the café experience with their trendy, Instagram‑able floral décor.

Spoon recommends their Buffalo cauliflower, monkey bread, or the almost-too-pretty-to-eat Not Yo Mama’s Pie Freakshake

2. The Cookie Connect

405 W Passaic Ave, Bloomfield, NJ 07003

@TheCookieConnect knows that there’s always room for dessert, whether it’s one of their insanely photogenic cookies, cereal ice cream bar, signature cookie cup, or 5lb ice cream sandwich.

#SpoonTip Can’t make it to Bloomfield? The Cookie Connect delivers into the early morning hours, meaning your late-night cravings are covered.

3. Tick Tock Diner

281 Allwood Rd, Clifton, NJ 07012

Even New Yorkers agree that there’s nothing quite like a New Jersey diner — especially after a long night of classes and clinicals.

The only question: are you taking advantage of all‑day breakfast in the time warp that is your local diner, or sticking to another tried-and-true diner classic?

4. Urban Leaf Cafe

182D Kingland St, Nutley, NJ 07110

Talk about a taro‑rific pick me up after class.

Check out the variety of boba-filled beverages and bubble teas at @UrbanLeafCafe — all of which pair perfectly with their Spam Musubi.

5. The Oakley Kitchen

789 Bloomfield Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110

@TheOakleyKitchen is a cozy yet elegant gastropub named after legendary sharpshooter and Nutley resident Annie Oakley.

Enjoy the excellent food, great drinks, fun atmosphere, and live music at The Oakley — and don’t forget to take advantage of their variety of $9 happy hour deals.

6. Bonchon

553 N Franklin Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110

Founded in Korea in 2002 and raised in the heart of NYC, Bonchon’s goal is to share the joy of Korean comfort food around the world.

Their signature Korean fried chicken is hand‑battered, double‑fried, and hand‑brushed with your choice of soy garlic or spicy sauce.

7. Tommy’s Tavern + Tap

826 NJ-3, Clifton, NJ 07012

Tommy’s family‑owned business is “guided by old school values: ‘always work hard’ ‘never cut corners’ ‘always do your best’ and ‘never cut corners’.”

Above all, though, Tommy’s serves quality food and beverages in an ambient, fun environment — the perfect spot for a quick dinner out after a day at IHS.

8. Vilardo’s Italian Deli

250 High St, Nutley, NJ 07110

Vilardo’s Deli & Catering is a family‑owned business offering a variety of classic Italian entrees, specialty sandwiches, homemade soups, a chopped salad bar, and fresh baked bread made with only the best ingredients.

Trust us — you can’t go wrong with a #4 sandwich (chicken, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, arugula and balsamic glaze) with a cup of Pasta Fagioli.

9. Chipotle Mexican Grill

380 NJ-3, Clifton, NJ 07014

We asked what your favorite IHS eats were, and you answered. Despite the amazing selection, the most common answer was @Chipotle.

But really, can you ever go wrong with a Chipotle burrito bowl with all the fixings? (Plus, the chain frequently offers discounts and deals for healthcare workers.)

10. BGL

243 Washington Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110

BGL is a New York Style bagel shop in the heart of New Jersey, with a modern design and creative menu.

Hospitality, all‑natural ingredients, and delicious quality bagels aren’t just a job at @TheBGL — it’s their passion.

11. IHOP

680 NJ-3, Clifton, NJ 07012

While we’re always pro‑diner, there’s just something so nostalgic about the International House of Pancakes and their ridiculously over‑the‑top pancakes and “stellar-ly sticky” breakfasts.

Plus, you really can’t go wrong their cheap, convenient eats paired with a pot of steaming coffee.

12. Luna Wood Fire Tavern

223 Franklin Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110

Tucked in downtown Nutley, Luna is family‑owned and operated restaurant with a variety of home style Italian meals.

Whether you’re in the mood for a traditional wood fire pizza, quick lunch, classic dinner, or drinks with friends, @LunaWoodFireTavern has something for everyone.

13. Tiki Bowls

206 Franklin Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110

Tiki Bowls boasts the best bowls, smoothies and juices in Northern New Jersey, made from the freshest ingredients allowed.

Try one of their signature bowls or smoothies, or blend your own for a refreshing tropical treat.

Kennedy Dierks

Seton Hall '23

Hi! My name is Kennedy, and I'm a pre-med student majoring in Biology and minoring in Art History at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. I can eat my weight in ahi poke bowls, tikka masala, and Graham Central Station ice cream, and cannot live without Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel Seasoning. I love anything creative -- music, painting, writing, etc. (my art was featured in British Vogue!), and I'm convinced that I'd be Temperance Brennan from Bones in another life. I'm so excited to be a part of Spoon and share my love for food!
