As a student, paying full price for anything stings—especially when that something happens to be alcohol. Since no one wants to trek around Kingston in the dead of winter hunting for the cheapest place to grab a drink with friends, we put together a list of the best happy hour deals within walking distance of Queen’s campus.
1. Harper’s Burger Bar
From 3-5 pm, Harper’s offers $5 drinks including craft beer, cocktails and wine. Appetizers are also half-off, which makes this the perfect place for a pre-dinner snack.
2. Kingston Brewing Company
From 4-6 pm, all house-made beer is $5 and house-made ciders are $5.50. There’s also usually a special on one of the appetizers during this time.
This deal only applies from Monday to Friday, so hit up KBC for after-class drinks.
3. The Toucan
From 4-7 pm, you can get a pint at the Toucan for $4.75 from Monday to Thursday and $5.50 on Friday and Saturday. The type of beer subjected to this deal varies depending on the day of the week, making it a great place to go when you feel like being surprised.
4. Sir John’s Public House
Every Monday to Friday from 4-6 pm, draft beer and house wine at Sir John’s can be found for $5. This pub tends to draw in an older crowd, so it’s a great option if you’re looking to escape the monotony of the student club scene.
5. Stone City Ales
While technically not a happy hour deal, you can grab a $5 pint at Stone City Ales on Mondays. It’s the perfect chance to try a new craft beer!
6. Le Chien Noir
Happy hour runs from 3-5 pm daily, so take advantage of this opportunity to dine in one of Kingston’s fancier restaurants without paying full price.
7. The Iron Duke on Wellington
Described as the “food lover’s pub,” The Duke offers $5 pints of various types of beers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.
With a bit of planning, you can save a few bucks and still enjoy the best of the Kingston food and drink scene. Happy pub crawling!
