This Tuesday, March 14th (3/14) is Pi Day, a day when we all step back and appreciate the infinite mathematical constant Pi (π) and its ability to relate the circumference of a circle to its diameter. What would we do without it?
Since food transcends all boundaries, Pi Day has also become a day for consuming pie-related eats. This includes anything from traditional pies (sweet or savory) to foods starting with the letter combination “pi” (like pineapple, pistachio, pickle). But here at Northeastern, we’ve chosen to celebrate Pi Day with a less obvious, but still very relevant pie – pizza!
A few weeks ago, our Northeastern Spoon chapter held our weekly meeting at Blaze Pizza in Fenway to share some delicious, “fast fire’d” make-your-own pizzas and brainstorm some weird and creative ways to eat our favorite type of pie.
1. Traditional By the Slice
These first two aren’t necessarily as irrational as π, but there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple and eating your pizza the traditional, triangular-sliced way! The pizza itself doesn’t have to be traditional, though. The slice above is both gluten-free and cheese-free!
2. Half Fold
Likely the second-most popular pizza-eating method, the half fold is a smart way to contain all the greasy goodness in each bite.
3. Inside-Out Fold
In an unexpected twist on the half fold, this inside-out version is significantly more messy but no less delicious, providing immediate access to your pizza toppings.
4. Double Stack
For when one slice is just not enough. Variations include cheese-to-cheese stacking, as shown above, or cheese-to-crust stacking with each slice facing upwards.
5. By the Half
And for when slices just won’t cut it, go straight for the half-pie. It’s Pi Day, treat yourself.
6. Crust Dip
Once you’ve reached the pizza crust, dip the dough in the leftover pizza grease. Or, in this case, in the balsamic glaze drizzled on top.
7. With Friends and Foodies
Take this Pi Day to celebrate with your fellow food-lovers. Find a Blaze Pizza location near you this Tuesday for any pizza pie of your choice for only $3.14 in honor of Pi Day!
P.S. For all Northeastern students: If you’re on campus this Tuesday, March 14th, head over to Centennial Commons from 1:00PM-5:00PM for a Pi Day celebration hosted by Northeastern RSA! Stop by for free pie, compete in a pie-eating contest and collect some free stuff!
