10 Dessert Hummus Recipes That Aren’t Terrible for You

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at GSU chapter.

Yeah, yeah. We all made our New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of January to “eat more vegetables” and “stop eating ice cream straight out of the freezer with a spoon.” But if Valentine’s Day, the winter blues, and impending midterms leave you craving sweets, the answer is these 10 awesome dessert hummus recipes.

While most of these dessert hummus recipes involve chocolate and sugar, all of them have tons of protein, many are naturally sweetened, and a few incorporate a healthy serving of fruit. Which means you can indulge in your cravings for sweets without falling completely off the wagon.

1. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Hummus

Craving cookie dough? Look no further than this peanut butter chocolate chip hummus filled with rich chocolate flavor, and 100% less E.Coli.

2. Brownie Batter Hummus

This brownie batter hummus cuts out the sugar by using a combo of raw cacao powder and coconut milk, yet it still manages to taste incredibly decadent.

3. Banana Hummus

The food trend of bananas as a sweetener is one I’m whole-heartedly on board with (ever heard of banana nice cream?). This vegan recipe is the perfect base for a variety of add-ins and flavors.

4. Pumpkin Pie Hummus

I’ll just say it. The corporate bigwigs at Starbucks who decided that pumpkin flavoring can only be enjoyed four months out of the year are emphatically incorrect. Pair this real pumpkin and cinnamon-filled hummus with fresh apple slices and ride that harvest high all year long.

5. S’mores Hummus

In case you were worried this was all getting too healthy, top your healthy brownie batter hummus with a layer of marshmallows and bake until it reaches gooey perfection. This recipe is perfect proof that s’mores can be part of a balanced diet.

6. Cake Batter Hummus

Who knew sprinkles could be successfully integrated into a healthy-ish recipe? This incredibly simple hummus uses all the ingredients to make a sweet vanilla birthday cake without the pesky waiting for it to bake part.

7. Red Velvet Hummus

It’s a completely made up statistic, but probably true that 85% of red velvet cupcakes turn out incredibly dry. Instead of trying to bake red velvet cupcakes, avoid that risk by integrating the classic crimson color and sweet dark chocolate flavor into your hummus.

8. Banana Bread Hummus

Banana bread batter is equally enticing as cookie dough or cake batter, but doesn’t get the same kind of hype. This is a shame, because this cinammon and walnut-filled hummus shows us everything we’re missing out on.

9. Snickerdoodle Hummus

If you’re feeling nostalgic for your favorite childhood cookie, this cinnamon and vanilla-infused hummus can help curb your cravings while packing a punch of protein.

#SpoonTip: As noted by A Virtual Vegan in the recipe notes, cream of tartar is really great to add to give this dessert hummus recipe the traditional Snickerdoodle flavor.

10. Chocolate Hummus

This chocolate hummus combines two different kinds of melted chocolate, which results in a hummus that’s truly decadent. Serve it up with strawberries, apples, and graham crackers, or eat it straight out of the bowl with a spoon. #JudgementFreeZone.

All these dessert hummus recipes are quick, simple to make, and pack in a punch of protein. So put on some sweatpants, grab your chickpeas, whip up some hummus, and kick back in front of the Harry Potter marathon. You deserve it
