How to Eat Like a Gilmore Girl When the Revival Debuts

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Emory chapter.

Thanksgiving is great and all, but the best part of November this year is the November 25th Netflix debut of the Gilmore Girls Revival, the perfect all-American show. For optimal binge-watching conditions, snacks are a vital component, but especially in regards to a show that is so centralized around food. Here’s a list of what to snack on from morning until night that would make Loreiai Gilmore proud.

Morning Binging

Coffee

Coming as a shocker to no one, the most undisputed beverage and arguably food group of choice in the show is coffee. It’s always there for you when you need it, and it’s bound to give you enough energy to power through each one and a half hour episode.

Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tarts

The breakfast of champions.  In the wise words of Lorelai Gilmore, “The Pop-Tart tasted like freedom, and rebellion, and independence.” You know every time you saw one of these beauties in the hands of a Gilmore you regret whatever it is you had eaten for breakfast instead. Complementing coffee nicely, this is a prime opportunity to live your childhood breakfast fantasy.

Midday Binging

Burger and Fries

What would an episode of Gilmore Girls be without a Luke’s burger and side of fries? Thanks to the endless amounts of online food delivery companies, you don’t even have to leave the couch to order some perfectly greasy diner food.

Afternoon Binging

Red Vines

Lorelai and Rory’s movie snack of choice, Red Vines are perfect to mindlessly munch on until dinner. While you may believe that Twizzlers are better, you’ll just have to forego personal preference for posterity. In the end, its all just sugar dyed red in a fun shape, so there’s really no losing.

Nighttime Binging

Chinese food

From being a constant presence in Lorelai’s fridge to providing comfort to Rory and Paris as they (temporarily) swear off boys, Chinese take-out is revered by the woman of Stars Hallow and the greater Connecticut area.  Perhaps it’s because everything tastes better out of a take-out box? This would be a good time to test out that theory.

Dessert Sushi

As an homage to that one time Lorelai was impressively ~domestic,~ dessert sushi is a must.

#SpoonTip: Use an extra pair of chopsticks from your aforementioned Chinese take-out to eat it for the full effect.

Ice Cream

The answer to all problems, the Gilmore’s know the power of ice cream. No dish-washing necessary (as the carton is the bowl and the utensils of choice are obviously plastic), it fits the bill for the most Gilmore-esque dessert. Lucky for you, Ample Hills Creamery in Brooklyn, New York, knows that and concocted a special flavor in honor of the show’s revival. “They Scoop Gilmores, Don’t They?” is a coffee and chocolate pudding ice cream with Pop-Tart sprinkles on top. Don’t worry if you don’t live in New York, pints are available to order online.

While any other day of the year the Gilmore Girls diet may seem like a pipe-dream, November 25th is the time to fulfill your wildest and junkiest food fantasies with friends and loved ones as you give thanks for the best show of the 2000s.
