How To Rally So You Can Make It Out Post Day Drinking

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at Emory chapter.

Darty (day-party) season is upon us. This means frat pools filled with possible-diseases, Hawaiian shirts, and a seamless transition from boozy brunch to a party. Dartys are all fun and games until it reaches 4 pm–the alcohol is gone, the hangover is hitting, and all you want to do is nap. There are always those select few that can make it out that night and now you can be one of those people (or at least stay awake past 7).

#SpoonTip: Spoon University does not support binge drinking or underage drinking. Keep it classy friends! But if you or a friend needs help, don’t be afraid to call for it.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is an essential part of any party, but for darties, water will be your savior. Not only will it stop you from becoming a sloppy mess in the light of day, but hydration is essential when sun exposure is a given.

Give In To Drunk Eats

Everyone knows who a drunk person’s best friend is—food. Food can slow the absorption of alcohol so you won’t suddenly be hit by that drink you finished a little too fast. Also, make sure you eat pre-darty. Boozy brunch anyone?

Get ~Shady~

So you’re trying to work on your tan, but alc and sun do not mix. You are already putting some damage on your body, so help yourself out and find some shade. Being in the sun can cause dehydration and will contribute to that nasty, post-darty headache. In addition, make sure you apply sunscreen. You might smell like Hawaiian Tropic for the whole day, but you will be glad when you don’t have weird tan lines from the bathing suit you had to wear.

Count your Consumption

Day drinking does not have the same time limit that the typical night party has. The party keeps going until the brave souls that survived the day, make it out that night. This means that it is a little harder to know when to slow down. Going to the darty with a drink limit will make sure you don’t get to shwastey and you can party through the night.

Nap

Don’t have to ask me twice. Napping will help you sleep off some of the alc from earlier in the day, and if you’re lucky, you can convince your body that you got a full night of sleep. You maybe, just maybe will be able to make it out later that night.

Avoid the Hard Sh*t

Although you may be tempted to “go hard,” you will hate yourself later in the day. Hard alcohol is hella strong and a shot goes down fast (or at least we hope it does). I suggest a mixed drink or going the ~classy~ route and drinking wine out of a bag.

I cannot promise that you will survive darty season, but by following these tips, you might come out the other end of with your memory intact and with a couple fewer people to avoid. You might even be able to wake up just in time to order in Uber Eats for dinner and PTFO so you can make it out the next night.
