On March 29, 2017, the kids of Spoon UNC blessed hungry Tar Heels with snacks of epic proportions. I’m talkin’ free. limited edition. Dunkin’ Donuts flavored. Pop-Tarts.
The peeps over at Pop-Tarts were kind enough to send us limited edition Dunkin’ Donuts Vanilla Latte and Chocolate Mocha flavored Pop-Tarts. This was especially thrilling because CH is getting blessed with a Dunkin’ Donuts this summer.
Over the course of 3 hours, Spoon UNC handed out 960, I repeat, 960, coffee-flavored Pop-Tarts. During our time spreading Pop-Tarts and joy, Spoon UNC made a few (not so shocking) discoveries:
Everyone loves Pop-Tarts
As I walked around the Pit handing out beautiful, silver-wrapped packages of goodness, a lot of students grabbed them without even asking the flavor. This faith in Pop-Tarts regardless of flavor and whether they knew me was pretty impressive.
One girl left our Pit Sit with her hands full of Pop-Tarts, Spoon stickers, and a tote bag. With the glimmer of a tear in her eye, she said something akin to, “This is the best day ever.” You can’t make this stuff up.
Vanilla Latte > Chocolate Mocha
The general consensus among people who tried both flavors was that 1. Coffee absolutely belongs inside a Pop-Tart and 2. the Vanilla Latte flavor was better than the Chocolate Mocha.
The Vanilla Latte had a stronger coffee flavor, while the Chocolate Mocha tasted like coffee-infused s’mores. Actually, that’s something I absolutely want s’more of. So yeah, sign me up for both.
But the OG flavors still reign supreme
While everyone loved the Dunkin’ flavors, a lot of students were excited to regale their favorite Pop-Tart flavors from childhood.
Classics like Brown Sugar Cinnamon got a lot of love and the debate will live on as to whether one should eat Pop-Tarts at room temp, toasted, or frozen (one Spoon writer recommends hot fudge sundae straight from the freezer).
