How to Make a Rainbow Cake Using Natural Dye

Rainbow dye in food is amazing to look at, but not always the best to eat. Artificial colors can be toxic, especially to those who are allergic to artificial dyes. Not only do these dyes create visible vibrant colors in food, they can also hide in processed foods such as vanilla frosting and mac and cheese. With this cake recipe, you can have the best of both worlds! Using all natural ingredients, you can have the perfect rainbow cake without the guilt.

Extra: For the orange cake, puree fresh carrots in a blender with 1-3 tablespoons of water.

Natural Dye Cake

    Preheat oven to 350°F. Make super moist white cake mix. Prepare natural dyes.

    For the red cake, remove beet juice from a can and add to cake batter.

    For the yellow cake, add turmeric powder to cake batter.

    For the green cake, puree fresh spinach in a blender with 1-3 tablespoons water.

    For the blue cake, heat blueberries for one minute to soften them, then place them in a strainer set over a bowl. Mash the berries down to get your juice.

    For the purple cake, heat blackberries for one minute to soften them, then place them in a strainer set over a bowl. Mash the berries down to get your juice.

    Bake cakes in the oven for 20-30 minutes. Remove the cakes from the oven. Let the cakes sit for 30 minutes.
