These Holiday-Inspired Drinks Will Warm You Up This Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Spoon University at U Vic chapter.

It’s the holiday season once again and even though the weather app on my phone says it’s only -10, it’s so cold I can barely remember what it’s like to feel my legs. But if I’m just going to be staying inside, I may as well make it entertaining, right? Here are three holiday-inspired drinks that should warm you up this winter, or at least help you forget what’s happening outside.

Not the apple pie your mama used to make

Apple Pie Moscow Mule

Difficulty:BeginnerPrep time: 5 minutesCook time: minutesTotal time: 5 minutesServings:2 servings

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Tulsa Williams

Measure out the 4 oz. of both the apple cider and the vodka. Combine in a cocktail shaker.

  2. Tulsa Williams

Add crushed ice into cup (preferably a copper cup, for the true Moscow Mule experience). Fill cup halfway with the contents of the cocktail shaker and then top off with ginger beer or hard apple cider.

  3. Tulsa Williams

Slice an apple for garnish and voila! You’ve got yourself Apple Pie 2.0

What’s the holiday season without a lil spiked Eggnog?

Peppermint Mocha Eggnog

Difficulty:BeginnerPrep time: 5 minutesCook time: minutesTotal time: 5 minutesServings:2 servings

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Tulsa Williams

Measure out eggnog and Kahlúa pouring measurements into a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice.

  2. Tulsa Williams

    Add vanilla into shaker.

  3. Tulsa Williams

Pour into glass. Add some nutmeg. If your drink starts getting warm just add some ice cubes! Just an FYI but this recipe is also great for punch, just try tripling it.

No holiday is complete without wine

Red Wine Sangria

Difficulty:BeginnerPrep time: 10 minutesCook time:12 hours Total time:12 hours 10 minutesServings:5 servings

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Tulsa Williams

Pour wine into pitcher. I used Red Moscato because I like sweeter wines.

  2. Tulsa Williams

    Add shot of Brandy.

  3. Tulsa Williams

Cut up fruit. I don’t like oranges so I didn’t add them to my sangria. You can add as much or as little fruit as you’re feeling.

  4. Tulsa Williams

Add tonic water to fill up the pitcher. If you’re looking for a sweeter sangria use soda water. Refrigerate the sangria overonight.

  5. Tulsa Williams

Even though you have to wait hours for the sangria to be properly chilled and all the fruit juices to soak in, it’s all worth it at the end. I added a drink umbrella to trick myself into thinking I’m in +30 weather.

Basically a walking/talking piece of pizza.
