Cooking Mama's Rainbow Grilled Cheese Recipe: Does It Actually Work?
Back in the early 2000s, I was a heavy gamer. From Gameboy Advance SP to the Nintendo Switch, I was a fiend for video games such as Super Smash Bros, Wii Sports Resort, and Cooking Mama.
Cooking Mama, the Japanese simulation-style cooking game, was first released nearly 15 years ago on the Nintendo DS (I know, right?). It has since sold over 12 million copies worldwide and has spread to four different platforms, the latest being the Nintendo Switch.
I recently got the opportunity to play Cooking Mama: Cookstar on my friend's Nintendo Switch, and boy, was I filled with nostalgia.
I quickly grabbed the controller and flicked through the array of new and unfamiliar recipes. There were galaxy milkshakes, mochi, even vegetable terrine, but I eventually fell upon one that piqued my interest the most: a rainbow grilled cheese.
Because I had not played since I was 14, I was extremely excited and antsy to create this recipe and be chastised by the fastidious chef for messing up her recipe.
However, once I began the game, I wondered if it was actually possible to make this in real life. Now 21 and living on my own, I thought to myself, "Who's going to tell me that I can't try?"
So, after a quick trip to the grocery store, I decided to do it.
Once I got home, I pulled up Cooking Mama on YouTube and followed her rainbow grilled cheese recipe from start to finish, trying to gain my three stars and refrain from Mama's freak attacks.
Like always, Mama never let me down.

Overall, this was by far one of the cheesiest and most satisfying grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had, and that's saying something considering it's one of my favorite college/stress meals.
Not to mention, look at that color.
To say the least, I was extremely happy and surprised at how well Mama's virtual directions transferred to my small kitchen.
It truly made me feel like I was becoming my very own chef, just like Cooking Mama.
