Candy Cane Caramel Apples Will Satisfy Your Holiday Sweet Tooth

With the end of the semester (and finals) right around the corner, we could all use a sweet treat. If you need a little personal pick-me-up, want to give a swell gift to your hardworking Resident Advisor, or need to get in the good graces of a vindictive professor, this holiday treat is guaranteed to put anyone in the (for)giving spirit.

#SpoonTip: Spoon University in no way endorses bribing your professors (all the time...).

Candy canes are the ultimate decorating-frenzy, carol-singing, eggnog-indulging inducers, and if you can't get enough just from these apples, use them for truffles, puppy chow, and even s'mores

Practice making these at school, and bring the recipe home over break to wow your mom's friends at the annual holiday party.

Step 1

Assemble the ingredients in neat bowls for maximum Instagram pictures. I crushed the candy canes in a sandwich bag with a hammer. #collegeproblems

Step 2

Place foil or wax paper on a cookie sheet to place the apples on after dipping.

Step 3

Firmly embed the sticks in the apples. Pour the whole bag of caramels into a medium pot with the two tablespoons of water.

Step 4

Stir the caramels and water together constantly and consistently on medium-low heat until the caramel is smooth and warm.

Step 5

Tilt the pot towards you and dip the apple in the caramel until completely covered. I'm sure there is some art to this, but you'll cover the caramel shortly, so don't worry about style points. I put the white chocolate chips directly on the apple after I dipped it.

Step 6

Roll the caramel apple in the crushed candy cane and then place on the cookie sheet.

Step 7

Let the apples harden in the fridge for at least an hour before sharing the dope-ness with others.

And there you have it. Good luck on finals y'all!
