Syracuse students can spend their four years in college without experiencing all that the city has to offer. Just a 20-minute walk from campus, you can find the vibrant Westcott neighborhood. Home to delicious tacos, tasty coffee and a killer concert venue, it has become my new go-to Syracuse spot.

Alto Cinco

Whether you are in the mood for a feast filled with guac and salsa, tacos and quesadillas, and margaritas, or just stopping by for a drink, Alto Cinco has got you covered. The Mexican restaurant offers a cozy but fun ambience, perfect for a night out with friends. More of a breakfast person? Stop by from 10 a.m. - 3 a.m. on Sundays to try out their brunch menu.

Located at 526 Westcott Street.

Mom's Diner

After a late night out, heading over to Mom's Diner for brunch is the best pick-me-up. At the traditional diner, choose from a variety of egg, bacon and potato breakfast combos, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, and burgers while catching up on last nights gossip with friends.

Located at 501 Westcott Street.

Recess Coffee

A warm cafe with friendly baristas, Recess Coffee is the perfect early morning mood booster. A great spot to get some work done. Come for their quality, ethically sourced, coffee and Insta-worthy breakfast sandwiches, but stay for the welcoming atmosphere.

Located at 110 Harvard Place.

The Westcott Theater

An old movie theater reconstructed into a concert venue, The Westcott Theater offers an alternative to everyone's classic Marshall Street bars. Stop by Alto Cinco for a drink before a concert, or buy a beer and a slice of pizza at the bar inside the theater. Be sure to check out their calendar, you never know when your favorite artist might be stopping by.

Located at 524 Westcott Street.
