Are you one of those basic people that go to brunch on Sunday’s as then post about it on Instagram? If this sounds like you, then you need to go to a drag brunch. Last month in New York City in celebration of World Pride, The Official Drag Brunch of World Pride NYC took place. I had the chance to attend this brunch and was able to see RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11 runner up Brooke Lynn Hytes perform and I want to tell you all about it!
Location: Burger & Lobster
Burger & Lobster USA has two locations in New York City: Bryant Park & Flat Iron. The drag brunch was held on West 19th street right down the block from the Pride March. The restaurant had a very nice open concept and the staff members were extremely friendly while decked out in their latest pride apparel. We were seated in the main dining hall right past the entrance and there was a combination of booths, tables and high tops.
Drag Brunch Menu
Since this was a special event, Burger & Lobster had created a fixed menu. There were two options of either a burger and fries or lobster. I decided to go with a burger because I’m not a huge fish fan, but I heard the lobster was absolutely delicious. Since I am under 21, I just decided to stick with water, but there was an option to get bottomless mimosas which nearly everyone took advantage of during the brunch.
I didn’t have high expectations for the food going into the event because I went to another drag show before and the food was barely edible. My burger was probably one of the best burgers I have had in my life. It was juicy and melted right in my mouth. My only complaint was that the fries were extremely salty and started to burn my mouth after a while, but I’d rather them be too salty than not salty enough.
Which Drag Queens Were There?
Since this event was titled the official drag brunch of World Pride, I expected drag queens to be there and there was absolutely no shortage of talented performers. RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11 contestant Brooke Lynn Hytes was the headliner alongside local queens Sapphira Crystal, Kandy Muse, Sherry Pie, and Selmanilla. Sherry Pie hosted the event and had the crowd excited and full of laughter with her energy and comedic routine.
All of the queens performed two numbers where they would dance around the restaurant getting up close and personal with the audience. When Brooke Lynn Hytes took the floor, the whole restaurant shifted to the center just to get a glimpse. Hytes stunned the crowd with her flexibility and ballet skills showcasing her splits, kicks, and turns all around the restaurant. The drag queens were talented and classy queens that each brought something unique to the table whether it was their choreography or lip syncing skills.
Overall Thoughts
I had an incredible time at Burger & Lobster for The Official Drag Brunch of World Pride. The entertainment was phenomenal, the food was delicious, the staff members were friendly and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was inviting. If you find yourself in NYC on a Sunday with nothing to do, I would definitely suggest going to the nearest drag brunch for a memorable time you won’t forget!
