McDonald’s France Jokes About Removing The Classic Curry Sauce From Its Menu

Stephen Curry struck gold for the U.S. on August 10, after helping the Men’s Basketball Team secure first place in the remaining days of the Paris Olympics. With France leading by three points and three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Curry declared it his time to cook and scored a few more threes to bring home new hardware for Team USA. Now while this game sent shockwaves for fans worldwide, some weren’t too pleased and McDonald’s France was one of them. On Sunday, the brand took to Instagram and posted a packet of the Classic Curry sauce, a sweet curry sauce that is exclusive to the country.

“For obvious reasons, we are considering removing this sauce,” states the translated in-photo caption.

McDonald’s France then captioned the photo, “For four years minimum,” hoping that this would ease the sting of their loss until the next Olympic games.

Wait, is the sauce really gone?

The Classic Curry sauce is a burst of sweet and spicy flavor, and actually not named after the iconic basketball player. The French McDonald’s poked fun at removing this sauce from its menu after taking home the silver medal.

Feelings were mixed from both American and French fans in the post’s comments and across other social media platforms. On the Instagram post, some commented, “I refuse!! What is that!” while others tagged McDonald’s asking for the sauce to be brought to the U.S. instead.

While this post was a jump scare for lovers of the Classic Curry sauce, a spokesperson from McDonald’s France told CNN that the post was only a playful joke from the franchise, in response to Stephen Curry’s gold performance.

Do the French and US basketball teams have history?

Many people were surprised by the fast food chain’s teaser online, but basketball fans could understand why the French were left so salty.

“It must be complicated to be French and a Curry fan at the moment,” commented one user on McDonald’s France’s post (this comment was translated).

This gold medal win marks the second straight Olympic games in which the French and U.S. Men’s Basketball teams faced off for first place. The U.S. took home the gold in Tokyo, and they did so again in Paris.
