What’s more heated than a political debate? Oh that’s right, a debate between Starbucks and Dunkin. When Starbucks makes a move, Dunkin is quick to follow. During the holiday season, each shop relentlessly tries to one up the other, but it’s all in good fun and to spread some holiday cheer, right…?
Well, maybe not all the time. Whether you’re loyal to Starbucks or Dunkin, you can agree that these 4 topics are the most argued. So now it’s up to you, put your bias aside and decide which coffee spot wins all the marbles this season.
1. Cup Designs
Starbucks
With 13 new, customer-designed cups in 2016, you’re almost guaranteed to get a different cup with each purchase at Starbucks.
The cup frenzy all started in 1997 with the Starbucks red cup campaign. The campaign was created to spread holiday cheer when Starbucks had a mere 1,400 stores. But 19 holiday seasons later, people still can’t get enough of the signature red cup.
Dunkin
In 2015, Dunkin Donuts released their own holiday cup. The cup, designed in bright red and green, spelled out the word “JOY” on the side.
Nothing like Dunkin’s own holiday cup to really shake up Starbucks, amiright?
2. Coffee Brews
Starbucks
Since the outside of the drink matches the holiday season, why not the inside as well? Starbucks has 6 holiday themed drinks and 5 seasonal coffee brews. How will you ever decide between a Peppermint Mocha or an Egg Nog Latte?
Dunkin
Dunkin Donuts came out with their own holiday drink menu too. It includes the same crowd favorites as Starbucks, so I guess the only difference is the cup, which takes us back to square one.
3. Accessories
Starbucks
Nothing screams warmth like little snowmen mugs. I know I would not be able to resist a nice cup of hot cocoa in this wintery mug created by Starbucks.
Dunkin
Everything seems to be better when it’s miniature. Especially when it could be your favorite coffee drink. This Dunkin ornament could spice up any tree, but be careful if your Starbucks-lovin’ friends come over!
4. Menu
Starbucks
Crushed candy canes and snowmen are back again. This time in the form of the ever-so loved, Starbucks cake pops. As if these yummy treats couldn’t get any better, Starbucks stepped up their game in the cuteness category.
Dunkin
Dunkin comes in clutch with irresistible holiday donuts like the Candy Cane Crunch Donut, the Snickerdoodle Croissant Donut and the all time classic donut dressed in red and green sprinkles.
So my job is done now and it’s up to you – who is Santa’s favorite? Will it be Starbucks, the originator of the holiday cup or Dunkin, the one who creates the most decadent donuts?
Maybe you’re indifferent, maybe you’d do anything for a Starbucks brew or maybe you’re a Dunkin fanatic, but all I’m saying is you definitely don’t want to see mom and dad argue over who has the best Peppermint Mocha!
