The only way to celebrate National Junk Food Day is to take a trip down memory lane. We’re all adults now, and I don’t know about you, but I find myself eating crap less and less. I still eat sugar and desserts, but all of these classic “junk foods” from my childhood aren’t so popular anymore. Bring on the nostalgia!

Cosmic Brownies

The fudgy chocolate brownie and candy chocolate sprinkles were enough to drive me wild. These were always a special treat in my house, and I still enjoy them every now and then. As unhealthy as they are, they make a great dorm room dessert (especially late at night). If you’re looking to treat yourself, pick up a box of these.

Pop-Tarts

I don’t know if this is normal, but I never stopped eating Pop Tarts. I think I eat them more now than I did when I was little. Unpopular opinion though: they’re not good toasted. I know that’s the point, but I just don’t do it that way. All the vending machines around campus have them, and they’re so easy to eat on the go. I just can’t say no to that classic strawberry pastry.

Twinkies

I have to admit that my first twinkie was in fact, a fried twinkie. I’m a Jersey girl, what do you expect? Summers down the shore only meant one thing: fried foods galore. So, when I first tasted a regular old twinkie I wasn’t super impressed. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but if I had to eat one right now, you better believe I’m making the trip to the beach.

Yodels

These were my favorite growing up. I would request a box of Yodels anytime my mom went to the supermarket. The cream filling and hard chocolate shell was so sweet and so good. Part of me also just thought the name was funny, but Drake’s was one of those brands that just never disappointed in sweet sugary junk.

Dunk-A-Roos

Okay, if you don’t know what I’m talking about when I say Shrek Dunk-A-Roos are the GOAT, you’re fake. As the name suggests, the package was filled with cookies and icing, for dunking. The icing was filled with sprinkles, so you always got a rainbow bite on every cookie. 10 years later, I still wish they were around.

Donettes

These are possibly the best snack Hostess has to offer. Yes, the cupcakes are good, and we already talked about Twinkies. But I’m donut lover, what can I say? I think the fact that they came in different flavors is what appealed to me. And, of course, their size. Each one is bite-sized, almost to the point where you could eat a whole bag and not even realize it! I’ll always defend the powdered ones, but every now and then chocolate or cinnamon made their way into my kitchen. Either way, you can bet I finished those before anyone else could lay a hand on the bag.
